Look into any of teh X-Fi's, but specificly one that has a breakout box. That will make your recording much easier, and give you a varitey of extra input/output options. The Audigy 2s and Audigy 4's also are availablewith the breakout boxes, and all three are supurb for gaming.

Even though the Audigy is capable of using a breakout box and has EAX HD support for gaming purposes, I wouldn't recommend it for recording music because the Audigy cards automatically resample your music from 44.1kHz to 48kHz and have slight problems with ASIO.

I recommend that you get the BlueGears b-Enspirer, which is in the same price range as the Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic except that it has superior sound quality, better connectivity, better digital in/out (24-bit/192kHz), better DAC, etc. It isn't designed to be a gaming card like Creative cards are, but instead to be a multimedia oriented sound card. That doesn't mean that it's not good for gaming because it offers EAX 2.0 which most sound cards that emphasize in high sound quality reproduction lack.

You can't go wrong with good quality cards, that's not to say you need to dish out $300 or more. I'd go with the Creative Sound Blaster! X-Fi XtremeGamer or the Bluegears B-Enspirer Sound Card, both of them at around $100.

Get the x fi Xtreme Music, its just like all the other ones which you pay $100 extra for (or w/e) except it doesnt have X RAM or front consoles and those kind of extras, which are really just for bragging rights, i mean if you've got the cash the xtreme gamer fatal1ty w/o front panel only costs £30 more then the xtreme music here in the UK, so if i had the cash id stretch for that, im personally ordering my X FI Xtreme music tomorrow on ebay, if i had the cash id get the fatal1ty.

Sadly my icemat siberias are being RMAd, so yeah im gonna be using the greatest gaming soundcards with some 10 year old 2.1 speakers....
