My First AMD Build/Gaming PC Setup!

Thread Starter
Hey guys, this is my first post on OC.net C:
This looks like a really fun place to be active on, and I'm looking forward to being an active member on here.

I'm only 15, but ever since I was 10, I've wanted a gaming PC. I finally got that dream fulfilled. I know it's not the best setup, but for what I do, it seems to do the job. I do however need to upgrade the GPU, and possibly get a new case, as the one I have is tiny.

Here's a pic of my setup (My room is horrendous right now, sorry) Oh, also I couldn't do a shot of the inside because there's a fan attached to the door, and I take the risk of pulling it out if I try and move the door too far. I had to take this with a webcam... I don't have any good cameras right now.

Ok, peripheral wise, here's the rundown;

Dell U2713HM display, (getting another this week, gotta make space though! :S)

Standard keyboard

Standard mouse (Not in pic, but it's some random lenovo mouse. I might want to upgrade both my keyboard and mouse, but my mouse seems to have pretty high DPI)

Thrustmaster X (I think) For WarThunder <3

An Xbox 360 controller for NFS Rivals and other racing games

Two random Boston audio speakers I had, the sub is on the ground. They seem to get the job done well.

And in my hand is some 720p Logitech cam I use as a mic

This is my PC. Or part of it, actually. Just the front.

Let me just run the specs down quickly

FX-8350 Black Edition (CPU)

Corsair Vengance 16GB @ 1600MHz (RAM)

ASROCK 970 Extreme4 (Mobo)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (CPU Cooler)

Asus Radeon 7850 2gb (GPU)

Corsair 750CX (PSU)

Seagate Momentus 750GB (HDD)

Thermaltake MS-I Epic (Case)

Am I missing any other parts? It's kinda late so I might not be thinking clearly.

Also, can you guys suggest parts and upgrades? I'll be buying a Kingston 128GB SSD in a couple of days, and I am planning on upgrading the GPU to either an R9 290, or a 7970, or perhaps I'll just buy another 2gb ASUS 7850.

Also, I'm looking for some good racing and flying games. I'm gonna be getting a racing wheel pretty soon, and I would kinda like to play racing games other than NFS Rivals and Raceroom.

Thanks! C:

Looks awesome! I have a set of Boston speakers on my desk almost just like those. Love em. As for upgrades, you're well on the right path with the SSD purchase. I love that my games are on an SSD. Cuts loading times dramatically leaving more time to play! Grats on your first gaming rig. thumb.gif

Drop the wattage of the PSU from 750W to 430-550W. A single GPU configuration will not draw that much power.

Pretty weird to suggest he drop his PSU wattage when he doesn't need too?!

I suggest:

NZXT Source 220 to replace the PC case itself. You can always use LED fans on the front (2x120mm) and top (2x140mm)

What you can do is buy some PWM splitters on ebay and then get 4:

Zalman ZM-RC100 5V Noiseless Resistor 3-Pin Fan Speed Reduction Cable

Your system will be dead silent for the most part and still cool as heck.

kinda pointless downgrading just because what you have is a tad overkill...especially since he might get another 7850 rolleyes.gif

I'd definitely get a SSD first, it makes a night and day difference thumb.gif

Like you said get a new GPU and LordofTots advice for an SSD!
If you look at my rig is similar to yours. I have an SSD and it's my favorite part about my rig. It boots up by the time I can sit in my chair. Although I'm not able to host all my games from it, the OS itself seems very happy to be sourced from a solid state drive, haha. If it's possible and you have enough cooling around your GPU, overclock her a little bit. I noticed a decent gain when I did that to mine and I don't think buying a new graphics card will yield you all that much more performance for the price you'll be paying. Wait till the next releases and enjoy your SSD until then smile.gif If you want games on your SSD don't get anything under 256GB. I have 128GB as I'm not in a rush to play games and just like having all my programs on C:
