[AnandTech] AMD Announces Radeon R7 260; Shipping Mid-January

Squeezing in one final product announcement before the end of the year, today AMD is announcing the latest addition to the Radeon R7 family and the counterpart to the existing R7 260X, the R7 260. The R7 260 will be the near-obligatory lower tier part for the R7 260 series, featuring a lower performance Bonaire part in order to further bring down the price of Bonaire and fill in the gap between 260X and 250.

Looking quickly at the specs, whereas R7 260X is a fully enabled Bonaire part, R7 260 will be a cut down version of Bonaire, making it the first time AMD has shipped Bonaire in a less than full configuration. AMD has cut off two CUs, bringing the SP count down to 768 SPs and the texture unit count down to 48. Meanwhile clockspeeds have also been reined in slightly, with 260 topping out at 1GHz for the GPU clock and 6GHz for the memory clock. This puts theoretical performance at around 80% of 260X in GPU bound scenarios, and 92% in memory bound scenarios.

Should be quite a bit faster than a HD7770.

On second thought; never mind, don't.

the real question : does it have TrueAudio (should be named TrueDSP) and come in slim /low profile form factor

If yes, it's good.

If no, it's pointless and uses more power than necessary for a HTPC /entry level board.

This sits between a GTX 650 Ti and a HD 7790 so by the time it is launched it will be really underpowered.

I never understood the need for the HD 7790 other than price point, the HD 7850 and R9 270 (non-x) , GTX 660 all have single pci-e connector power. If you are opting to forgo PCIe power connectors then you have the ASUS GTX 650-E (the only GTX 650 that is pcie-slot powered) , GT 640 , and HD 7750.

The R7 250 and R7 240 are also terrible SKUs considering they're weaker than the HD 7750 and don't come with True Audio.

edit: according to Legitreviews it (r7 260) does have TrueAudio.

AMD touts the AMD Radeon R7 260 as being a feature loaded graphics card. Highlights of this card include full support of DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL 4.3, PCI Express 3.0, AMD Eyefinity 2.0, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, AMD CrossFire, AMD TrueAudio, AMD Mandle and so on

768 shaders on 75W has been done, see Firepro W5000 (256-bit memory) . That's why I don't understand the need for 95W on a 768 shader part with only 1GB VRAM on a 128-bit memory bus.

basically an overclocked version of what's inside the Xbox One. they certainly needed this to fill the big performance gap between the R7 250 and R7 260X.

Has anyone heard anything new about this card? Don't think I saw anything from CES 2014 but it was scheduled to be available mid January, which is now.

AlphaC you fail to understand that some people operate on something called a "budget".

I work at a tech store and the DDR5 versions of R7 250s and R7 240s sell like hot cakes. The R7 250 can pretty much handle every game maxed @720p while the R7 240 can do it on medium/high. Not too shabby.

According to the reviews, this is almost as fast as a GTX650Ti for $20 less, so that's your market. As for availability, we are expecting stocks by end of Januaray.

Zero, are you expecting any low profile models?

So it's actually worse than a 7750 :/ This really shows how artificial the GPU market is.

R7 260 (768 sp/48 texture) is better than 7770(640/40), worse than 7790(896/56)

In any sense, it should be more or less similar to 650ti non boost.
