I believe anything higher than 1500 is just for the shine-factor.

You're aiming for a flat surface, so you don't necessarily have to get super-high grit sandpaper.
Yeah it's flat and smooth that counts the most. Shinyness is just to show off. Lol.

Obviously, with a flat and smooth surface there's going to be a relatively high amount of shine anyway.

And as sad by Joeking, a piece of glass will work.

I think you should get one of the kits from www.easypckits.com. Supplies everything you need, including a plate of glass.

i already got the sand paper, is there a faq page on how to do this? i think ur suposed to tape the sand paper to the glass, then rub the HS across the sandpaper (rotating every so often). But u are supposed to marker the surface once for each grit increment right?

You can do that, yeah. It's easiest if you tape down the paper to the glass as well, yeah.

Good luck with it

Well you can use anything as long as you're sure it's completely flat. It'd help if you had one of those funky ruler things with the bubble thing in it that tells you if something's flat.
