Gaming Rig Station Upgrade Suggestion and help?

Hi guys, i posted here awhile back for my rig i had for few years ago.

my current setup
Intel Core i7 860 Processor LGA1156 2.8GHz 8MB Cache CPU
Corsair H60 Cooling
Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Intel LGA1156 HDMI
G Skill F3-10666CL9-4GBRL (2x4GB)
Hitachi 1TB SATA 7200RPM 32M
Seagate SATA3 2TB 7200RPM Barracuda 64mb Cache
Sapphire ATI HD7950 OC 3GB GDDR5 1MDP/HDMI
Samsung 22X DVDRW Black SATA
Thermaltake Chaser MK-I Full Tower
Gigabyte Superb 720W 120mm Fan Power Supply

Currently im thinking of putting few hardware together to do an upgrade rather than building a whole new scratch one.
The part ive picked are the following

  • Intel Core i7 4770K LGA1150 CPU 3.5Ghz 8Mb Cache Haswell
  • Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100i Liquid CPU Cooler - Extreme Performance CPU Cooling and Built-In
  • Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H 4x DDR3 6xPCI-E 1xPCI 8xSATA3 10xUSB3.0 HDMI D-SUB
  • Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 CMY16GX3M2A1866C9B 1866MHz Dimm, Unbuffered, 9-10-9-27, Vengeance Pro Blue
  • Seasonic 1000W 80Plus Platinum Full Modular

Total Cost upgrade : $1400 approx. no budget in mind as long dont go over 2k? Just want lots of SATA Ports and 8 of them is just perfect originally was gonna go for MSI G65 board but then colour is strange with my chaser mk1 and also read alot of review about bad killer net issue.

im not particular fan with any brand as long as it work and its durable. Reason for putting this upgrade together was due to my current rig the mother board is only a micro atx, so imagine a Graphics card of AMD 7950 3GB fitting into that in a FULL Tower case, it just look ridiculous and blocking alot of slots on the bottom, very hard to explain since it was build by one of my friend few year back, but im slowly upgrading bit by bit but this time im going a full package swap just without an graphic card since ill be only using the 7950 for now since running all the games such as black flag all max out setting on a 35 - 45 FPS it just shocking....but playable.

well let me know what you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

Do you plan on crossfire in the future? If not, drop the PSU for 550W for overclocking the CPU and GPU. 1000W is overkill. Period.

As said you dont need 1000 watts

Crossfire maybe not sure at this stage.
On top of my mind right now, I'm thinking maybe cross fire or maybe just get a single GPU the R290 since the titans it's just too pricey for me frown.gif

Reason for getting the 1000 seasonic was coz it's on sale and it cost cheaper than buying a 600 - 800 watts psu. Ontop of that it's modular which what I'm aiming for.
For example the one I have wrote down was

• cooler master 1000w silent pro $249
• corsair ax 760i $289
• corsair ax 860i $325
• seasonic 1000w $295
• seasonic xp 860w version 2 80 plus platinum $278

I understand it's over killed for my current rig however I rather spend abit more around $200 price range and know that I'm save for the next 7 years (warranty) with future proof and future upgrade I wouldn't need to buy another psu. Maybe I can one of those one on the list above??

•another question would be should I even bother to upgrade the ram to 2133MHz for extra $55??

Seems like a lot to pay for a nice PSU... how about a Leadex platform platinum efficiency EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2? Typically under $200.

As they said... you should be able to get a nice PSU for between $100 and $150 *usd by watching for sales, coupons and rebates. I like techbargains.com for this. I bought an XFX 850w 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power Supply for $100 after the rebate shows up (I did get a confirm it should be 5-7 weeks and well... it's wrapped under the tree -come'on Christmas!) That's $60 off. And from hardware secrets -

The new XFX PRO Black Edition Full Modular series power supplies are rebranded Seasonic X-Series KM3 units. The latest models within Corsair's AX series are also based on the same platform.

You will probably hear different sides as to whether it is worth it to pay an extra $55 for a slightly faster speed RAM.

You graphic card, is measured in gold right now
You can sell it for $400 or more, on ebay or everywhere
Miners and resellers would fight for that, so with that money you can buy a R9 290

haha well thanks guys for the information and help, ill definitely look into a better pricing in PSU, guess ill just now stuck on whether i should upgrade to 2100mhz and instead of going with the UD3H maybe I might go with UD5H since it's only 50 dollar difference.

I'm from Australia. I shop on this online store www.umart.com.au so that's the only cheapest one I can get my hands on frown.gif
