Haswell Upgrade Time?

Thread Starter
Currently rocking the i7 920 D0 @ 4 GHz. Lately I feel like I'm in need for an upgrade and I'm debating upgrading to Haswell. I mainly use the PC for gaming but nothing to intense (no BF4...yet). My HDDs are also starting to age, there about 4-5 years old

I'm thinking about getting a 4770k, new motherboard, a nice sized SSD, 2tb HD for data, and windows 8 OEM. Everything else I can keep the same, although my ram will drop from 24gb to 16gb (no biggee). It should cost me ~$1000 USD for the upgrade.

Is it worth it or should I just wait a while?

It should cost a bit less than $1000... Figure $300 for 4770k (can be found much cheaper, especially if you live near a Microcenter), $150 for a decent motherboard, $160 for 250GB SSD, $80 for 2TB HD, and $100 for Win 8.1. All these prices can be beat with a little shopping around.

An i7 920 D0 @ 4 GHz is more than enough for gaming. Just upgrade your GPU and pick up an SSD. 570 is VRAM limited, and that's where all your performance issues probably are from in any new games.
