Fanboyism aside, it looks like AMD cards consistently scale better than their Nvidia rivals. 780ti is not making a good case for itself with it's massive premium (Well, at least it wouldn't if these stupid bitcoins didn't mess with the GPU pricing)

After 2 cards you're really standing on shaky ground though.

They probably tested BF4 with the 290x before Dice borked the game, and the 780's after SLI/Xfire borkage biggrin.gif

Agreed, it's nice to see a good (maybe only) tri/quad/SLI review.

I don't understand why some people call it fake...why put so much effort and detail in a review if it's faked, defeats the object imo.

This review convinced me to steer clear of buying a forth 290x, will save my money, sell these and buy 3 Asus DirectCU's.

I can confirm this. I have 560 ti's in SLI.
With 1 card at 1080p and all settings on HIGH with no AA, I range from 35-65 FPS. The game play isn't great, but it is playable.

When I enable SLI, my FPS "goes up" so the overlay FPS readout says. I range from 65-110 FPS. The game play is horrible though. Not only is it choppy as hell, but the graphics are horrid. The majority of the terrain flickers until you get up close. It almost is like the graphics have been turned to LOW, even though I checked that the settings were still correct.

Shame really. I would LOVE to have crossfire 290's from one of the AIB's. I would LOVE to have 780's in SLI too.
The wife's rearrangement of the front end on her car this morning changed that though.

I am just glad to see these two companies slugging it out right now. I love competition, and so should everyone else!!

290 was for value, 290x was for epeen. I say was because both are silly expensive now. R9-290 is not anywhere near being worth $550, not with the awesome 780s you can get for that price.

I tried multi-gpu twice (one green and one red) and they were both subpar. Rome II didn't work on SLI, BF4 had negative scaling (early), and CF was just dodgy in general for 144 Hz. I'd happily lose some value and performance for the convenience of using only one card.

I got my 290x's for 550usd, I can still get them off the shelf here for that price...bitcoin drama hasn't affected prices here in Dubai.

Seems like if you wanna go with more than 2 cards for anything other than benching you'll go AMD. But the number of people that buy more than 2 cards mainly for gaming are probably pretty small so w/e. That 290 is still a really good deal, for $50 more than a 780 ti you can get +40-50 performance in most cases with 290 CFX, depends on whether you like dual gpu configurations or not and brand loyalty to Nvidia.
