I currently have the oppirtionity to change my processor from the FX-8350 to an I5 3570k. I was wondering if I should take this chance and switch or should I keep what I got. Both Chips need a new mobo so either way I am spending $200. This is a gaming PC and I play games as new as Battlefield 4 and wanna play TitanFall when it comes out in march.

Sure stay with FX 8350 you already got it.
FX8350 is better then i5 3570K Ivy especially if you going to play Battlefield 4 and future games, even switching to i7 Ivy its not smart thing to do if you already got FX8350 not talking about i5 Ivy/Haswell.
Get a good mobo for overclock.
Probably best 990FX boards:
*ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX
*ASRock 990FX Extreme9 AM3+ AMD 990FX

Stay with 8350. There is nothing wrong with it. The motherboards Malcom recommended are good but on the bit expensive side. If you want something on a more mild budget I would recommend AsRock Extreme 9 or 4 or Asus M5A990FX Pro R.20 or the 990X Evo R2.0. These are all really nice boards. Then get yourself a closed loop cooler. I would say Swiftec 220 or 320 or the CoolerMaster Glacier or Nepton. Then you can pop in by the Vishera owners club and we will tell you how to get to at least 4.8GHz. At those speeds you draw level to a 4770K @ 4.4 GHz. I5 you're drunk go home!

If you want the big 5.0 or higher and are willng to spend a little more build up a custom loop with a 360mm rad. I would recommend XSPC for that.

I'm actually going with the formula-z. The price doesn't bother me and it is the right color scheme I want. I also priced out a custom loop with a 240mm rad and a 120mm because my case won't allow a single 360mm. I'm new to water cooling. I've read tons of articles and still got tons to learn

Well if you are going all out on MB and cooling then you might as well stay with the 8350 because then you can spend more on the cooling, which can be kept for the most part on future upgrades as well so it is a good investment into your computer. As others have said, if you get the 8350 high enough it will match or beat the Ivy bridge even in single threaded tasks. I myself own both an i5 3570K @4.7 and an 8350 @ 5.4 (can push 5.58GHz if I really want extra speed) and my AMD processor wins in actual games and benchmarks because the sheer MHz are just so much higher. Now granted, I do have a golden chip so it is not likely you will get to 5.4GHz and beyond for 24/7 usage. But it is possible to get high enough with good cooling and MB to beat out the Ivy bridge in every scenario.

I actually own both chips one is in my computer one is in my father in laws. He already gave me the go ahead to switch the chips. Either way I go they both need better mobo and better cooling for performance so the money spent for either chip will be the same.

I am glad actually these little comments help a lot it makes me strive to get my chip to kick ass. I am currently gathering the money to get my new mobo seeing as mine doesn't support the FX 8350 and a water cooling system

FX-8350 is cool

i would get good motherboard that supports FX-9370 chips for the future ... in half a year you will find them to be very affordable and probably only upgrade left on that AM3+ platform.
Same goes for the 3570 tho 3770 will be good upgrade down the road if you want to go there but that will be only upgrade since both are pretty much dead sockets

.........you do realize this is like asking whats better Ford or Chevy...don't u? Die hard Amd-er will promote Amd and intel-ers like wise. Go read some reviews. Amd's advantage has always been its cheaper. In my travel's in spite of core count , I5's dominate in raw performance.....and no amd chip could beat an overclocked intel.. But don't take my word for it ....research and gets whats best for you or moves you at the moment.

p.s. take a look at the rigs in each posters post and you'll see what i'm saying.

I have read reviews but most reviews don't talk about preformance after you start to overclock so I came on here to ask. I know it is a little bias seeing as I'm in the amd cpu forums section. I think I really just wanted people to tell me to stick with the amd. I picked out my parts for my computer and I really don't wanna switch. In my eyes it will kind of be failure that I can't pick out out the right parts and build a decent computer. I already failed with my motherboard.

P.s. I usually post from my phone so I don't see sigs

Oh and btw Ford is better

Agreed, but... . True it is a personal decision and depends greatly on what you plan to do for each CPU usage. If it is primarily gaming then I think 8350 would be the leaner. If you were looking at a haswell i7 or 8350 then there would be more difficulty.

stick with the AMD, it doesnt do as well in single threaded applications but kicks ass in multi threaded ones.

As for motherboards, go for an ASUS M599FX Pro R2.0 or Sabertooth R2.0

I used to have a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 but sold it and got a Sabertooth GEN3/R2.0, the Gigabyte was awesome and could do 3 way SLI/crossfire (wish i had remembered that before i sold it

MSI 970A G46. That one has a bad reputation of catching on fire when an 8XXX is plugged into it. It was designed before they came along.

While I am happy with the GD80 I'm using MSI has discontinued it, leaving Asus as the only quality maker left.

+1

Any of the asus 990 chipsets are amazing motherboards.

If MSI has stopped production of the 990 boards there has to be a replacement in the works. Reason I say this is Vishera is still in production. And people are still buying them. For example the OP . maybe MSI has discontinued their normal range of 990 boards and maybe have a Gaming series or M Power 990 board on the drawing board... One can dream. I just think it would be stupid to stop making motherboards when the cpu that needs it is still in production. They will loose customers. OP when it comes to 8350 vs i5 I say go 8350. If it was i7 I would probably say the other way around. Look besides all the stories about AMD 's being so bad and stuff. Most of them are mostly exaggerated. Most people with 6xxx FX' 's and up are really happy with their machines. I don't think you will be disappointed at all!

I am going with the Formula-z board I learned my lesson from going with cheap boards. I'm not saying the two you recommend were cheap but I like that Formula-z it has great options heard great things about overclocking with it and the color scheme matches what I wanna do.

Yeah I have read a lot of articles about how bad it was with 8xxx. Wish I did my research before hand. Due to the way they advertise and their customer service I will never buy another MSI product.

Well I just checked and it seems MSI discontinued the GD80 until the new version arrived. It is in stock and being sold as 220W FX5 cpu ready. I do not know what FX5 is................
