what to look for in a case?

ok so i'm thinking of buliding a computer with audio in mind. First thing i'll need is a case....or is it? Do you have to account for what you'll need first? I'd say of course, but what about the future? I don't like buying things to have to do it again later. Even if I do have to get a case later, I would prefer is to be much later.

so I know expasion is one thing you'll look for, what else?

is alot of it looks?

what about these different fan options?

should you get one with a psu already installed?

and my BIG ONE, how do you know which mobo will adapted to the case?

FEEL FREE TO ADD IN OTHER INTEREST I'M NOT THINKING OF

thnx all

biggest thing I look for in a case is. Do I like the way it looks? That is all that really matters to me, maybe I'm not a uber-leet enough OC'er to worry about cooling and all that.

To answer a few questions. Pretty much all Cases have lots of expansion room, like a mid-tower and up has lots of HD and DVD drive bays, probably more than you will ever use. There are two different mobo form factors in usage, Micro-ATX and ATX, most Cases will fit them both, that is what you need to look for when it comes to mobos. The ones with PSUs already installed usually don't have super high quality PSUs, but the PSUs will work, I mean I have used one for 9 months now, it is also slightly cheaper.

thanx. I like this one...http://cgi.ebay.com/Atrix-Black-Towe...ayphotohosting

but also have an idea on getting a plain side panel and cutting my favorite teams logo into it, then putting a sheet of clear (something) over that. ever seen that done? any ideas.

as for me I think looks, and fans, and room. Not room that i'll need but room to breath. I also like lcds just cause it looks cool. dumb huh?

you have to look for a good ventilation system and not all cases come with good power supplies so I think you should buy a seperate power supply if youre getting a pretty good system but ventilation IS important because cooling your parts will be important if you want to leave it on a while. Also see if theres space in it so you can easily move around in there with all your parts preferrably with a removable motherboard tray or just alot of space inside, and thats about all I can give you as for the looks of the case, thats all up to you. Also for the motherboard compatability just see if it's atx or micro atx or whatnot and the specs for the case should say what kind of motherboards it compatible with.

Look for at least 1 120mm fan mount. If you don't have one, the case is garbage. Also, look at the material. Aluminum is the best material for a case to be made out of. Make sure it's not all steel and plastic. Look at the HDD cage and see how easy it looks to access. Of course look to see what case LOOKS the best in your eye, but make sure it isn't made of crap materials and poor build quality. Other nice features that you don't need, but help out, are slideable mobo trays, blowholes (top mounted exhaust fans) and in some high end cases, multiple PSU moutning points.

I would recommend against that case you linked to. Lian Li, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, and Antec are the best case makers out there. There are all kinds of cases ranging from less than $50 to the $300+ range, so you'll have plenty to choose from. If you give me a budget I can pick a case for you that would be great. I could actually pick multiple cases and you can choose the one you like the best.

Antec P180b or the regular Antec P180. It's quiet, cool, sturdy and nice design.
