The 'Egg never is the fastest with new stuff... it took them several weeks to get Core 2 Duo while others already had them in stock (limited numbers though). Generally they tend to wait untill they have enough stock.

Do make sure yuo get a matching mobo with that one. It's FSB is 1333MHz.

And to Ninja: TYAN v. ASUS? I think that's a tie, with a slight advantage to TYAN Those boards rock! We just don't know too much about them at the enthusiast side of things.... hehehehe No overclocking obviously.

You'll need some software also. Should that be included in the $7000? If you want over 4GB of RAM, you'll need a 64-bit OS (Windows or Vista if you go that route). Also, the editing software likely won't be too cheap.

well i think i can satisfy the masses on this one by puttin mac osx on a PC and then using finial cut pro
post #127 of 232
It is ILLEGAL to install Apple's OS X on anything but Apple hardware. It violates a clause in the EULA. There have been reports of people hacking the operating system to allow it to work, but it is strictly illegal! If you want to run OS X, the ONLY legal way to do it is to buy a Mac computer.
It is indeed illegal! Do note that any advice for software piracy will not be tolerated.

Don't do it. It's illegal as stated.

I'd still go for LGA775. But that's just me; Quad-Core Xeon, 4GB of G. Skill Ram DDR2 667 (Leaving room to upgrade to 8GB), Asus P5B-Deluxe Motherboard, nVidia 8800GTX / 7950GX2 / 7900GTX, PCP&C 750W Silencer, 4x500GB or 3x750GB Seagate Barracuda's in Raid 0, ThermalTake Armor W/ Side Panel, Dual Samsung Displays... Video Editing doesn't need a server board, that'll surely be enough power.

If you want to be future proof don't waste $9,000 now when in two years it'll be replaced with a new Socket and DDR3 Ram...

[OCN] Ninja_Boy

Question: If Video Editing is CPU Intensive why would you need a $2,000 Graphics Card... When a 7950GX2 has 1GB of Graphics Ram, too? You could get an Asus 680i Motherboard and SLi 7950GX2's... For 2GB of GDDR3 (?) and the fastest DirectX 9 Setup - Graphics Card Wise.
