Video editing $7k budget - Page 22

some of the work can actually be offloaded onto the GPU in some high end editing programs especially with transitions like how the pure video stuff from nvidia uses the GPU to play videos and not the CPU which ends up making a better quality output

$7000 isn't that much when videos and audio is a big part of the ministry. We easily spend $7000 on a car for ourselves these days. I mean if they wanted to they COULD go ahead and buy themselves nice pcs, but they did it to save and guide others.

Exactly. No use spending more now. Spend 3K, wait a year, buy another... Then you have 2 editing machines. Buy another in another year, and you have 3. That is the best, and most cost-effective way. Otherwise, you end up spending a lot, for very little performance increase.

if we didn't spend it all now we would never get a budget approved later because of church politics. and we already have a few lower end (p4, athlon X2, and pentium D) computers that we use for the small stuff plus we all have computers at home that we use to edit. it was funny because one time this guy brought over his $2000 p4 system and we raced with encoding me on my sempron overclocked to 2.2 Ghz at the time and him with his hyperthreading 3.4 Ghz P4 in a multithreaded program and the sempron won. i loved it.

i want to learn more before i do that though because i have learned a ton already from doing this build and i haven't even really started yet. maybe once i get this done and use the new system for awhile then i will once i know alot more. what i would really love to do is set up a PC and a mac, both top of the line and do stuff to compare but it seems like no one has enough money to get both at the same time and do that, or atleast i have never seen anything like that and i was searching google for a loooonnngggg time for some comparisons and got nothing. the only thing i have heard to prove that a mac is better is that it is what the pros use... which means nothing to me because they might use them just because the huge price tag looks cool, idk.

So upgrade the video card. 8800GTS? Only $350 more than a 7600GT.
