Video editing $7k budget - Page 23

no more like a quadro because the way a video card is used for video editing is different than the way it is used for games and a quadro would be a much better investment for this type of work

Well, I just built a "base" system, if you will. I don't know your exact needs, so I meant for you to take the system I put together and change some parts. Maybe you don't need something, like a Logitech MX Revolution? Maybe you need a better video card? The point is that anything you build yourself should be cheaper than a corporate workstation (such as Dell) and will be cheaper than a Mac, and it will be much faster than anything Dell, Apple, etc. can offer if you overclock it. With DDR2-667 RAM you will be guaranteed 333FSB, which is 3.33GHz @ stock 10x multi.

I thought we've been over this, that the work you're doing uses the CPU.

You'll definatly want 2x dual core or one quad core, but 8 cores would be a bit of overkill, I think.
it would definatly be future proof at least for a few years

we did at one point and i was proven wrong because i saw that you can use something like pure video to use the video card but not just any video card only quadro and Fire Gl cards. it doesn't eliminate the need for amazing CPUs but it makes the outcome look better. and who knows i have an appointment with a "mac genious" today and he might tell me different... i am going to ask this guy a ton of questions.

Well, I know that i had a dual quad xeon spec'd out for about 2300 bucks....until i changed my mind and went with a quadcore qx6700 and overclocked it (I just appreciate the simplicity of a single physical processor).

there is some good editing software which will render with all cores...Premiere Pro is one I believe.

The 1.86 xeon quadcores can be found for about $550 each. If I was you, i'd just build a qx6700. I spent $2000 even and I use it for editing with Vegas vid and I can tell you that I've never seen anything like it.

if you really need to future proof then you'll want two of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117110
but these are massively expensive because they are 1333 fsb, to stay on budget you should go with other cloverton CPUs that are also quad core but are like half the price

for ram you'll probably want something like two of these sets, it will leave you room to add later if you need
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134327

probably one of these video cards
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133189

four of these hard drives will give you 2TB and room for one more while staying within budget
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148108

you should be pretty much set with that

Don't spend so much on that Quadro... If you really have to have one, you can spend much less and still have one good enough for HD editing.

I've seen them in action and never been that impressed.
