I don't know how helpful this thread will be to the OP, but it's sure as hell entertaining.

the programs for video editing are multi threaded to the point that they will utilize as many cores as there are availible

yeah we have all that stuff already but when we go high def we will probably need to get a new TV

I didn't pick a server board because...
A.) You won't need 8-Cores for VIDEO Editing
B.) ECC Ram costs more and you can get 8GB with G. Skill on an LGA775 Board
C.) They are worthless since Quad-Cores have come out
D.) Why would you get a Server Motherboard when an LGA775 one can do just as much...

server board... hmm multiple CPUs... 4x4? lolz.

Hey you won't need ECC at least, and K8L is just around the corner.... and the thing has like 64 SATA ports... for 400TB of storage.

well i think it will use all 8 cores when we encode the video it will just encode amazingly fast which is worth it when you are doing a 3 hour long video

If your church does as much video editing as you say, you should probably just go HD now and get a new TV when you order everything.

Also, you may want to consider investing this money differently. Instead of spending $7000 right now and then potentially being stuck with the workstation until you upgrade again, you should seriously think about spending $3000 every couple years.

This way, you will be able to upgrade when necessary instead of waiting for your hardware to become truly obsolete. Also, if one HD format does finally win over the next few years, you can make the switch then instead of waiting a few years more down the road.

well the 7 k really is just an initial investment that we plan to build apon for the next several years maybe putting around 2k into each year to keep it up to date but they want the original investment to be around the 7k mark

Yeah... get a quadfather ^_^ You can right now get 9 TB of storage crammed onto the thing (or a fantastic RAID array) and you can get nominal RAM and CPU upgrades as they become available and have what equates to two FX-62's until that time comes.

You'll save a fortune versus buying ECC and server processors.
