ok well would it be better to go with two dempsey's (because of hyperthreading) or two woodcrests?

Oh so now let's buy a Mac driveless so that they cant install the OS, ask them to ship the OS not installed and then add the drives ourselves, most likely voiding the warranty. Good plan. Especially for a church.

Why two optical drives? He said the church is massive and they do tons of editing. What about if they decide to pass out copies of a movie and they need to make 500? Burn two at a time my way. Very cheap upgrade anyways. Not a factor in the over-budget Mac.

Who's the moron?
Hahahahaha, Im pretty sure BigVal has been around and knows just about everything, I am also pretty sure he wins this fight.

for now
that would give me 3 terabytes of raid space. i might not want that video card seeing that i would be using a matrox video editing card i might just want a x1900 or something along those lines which would give me more money to put into CPUs. this build would allow for an upgrade to two quad core processors with not much of a problem.

thoughts? comments? concerns? i would like to hear what you have to say even if it includes getting a Macintosh

You'll be like WOOOOSHHHH!!!, Also some extra cash for more software... Like my wise father said, "It's not the hardware that'll hurt ya, it's the software. It'll kill ya."

P.S. You don't need a crazy kick-ass video card. That 2K card is good for 3D rendering. With just regular video rendering most of the load is on the CPU.

In my opinion, something like a 30" Apple Cinema Display (I'm not suggesting a whole mac, just the screen) will be better for video editing. While dual monitors is nice, you can't beat the size and resolution of a 30" display.

Churches are loaded, are you kidding me? *****!

Ever BEEN To a church?

Gold plated EVERYTHING, much?

Priest driving a Cadillac/Lincoln, much?

Do you know how much stained glass costs?!

the Catholic church is the richest organization in the world pretty much.

Anyways....

Get 4 cores..that'd be more worth it. Maybe 4gb of ram, and Vista...if you can find the software you want for vista...if not, just get 3gb and XP...or get 4, and have them for the upgrade later....

To be honest with you, 7k is kinda a waste, cause you could probably get just a little less future proofed, but save about 2 or 3 times the money...

Get a Mac.

Those are amazing monitors, I love them. The color is also beautiful, it's extremely rich. Isn't their native resolution on them 2560x1600?

I say Ninja's build because of the faster and cheaper RAM and the CPU is fast

*sighs* you guys are just throwing away money because the budget is so big. Just cuz you got 7K don't mean you gotta spend it. I'm sure even if you do lots of video editing, 8 cores is unnecessary. Future-proofing doesn't last all that long. You might get an 8 core computer, and in maybe a year or two there might be a dual-core that's faster than even an octo-core (being hypothetical). Like the other guy said, maybe spread it out, leave room for upgrading.
