DPMS on new build (old parts)

I've got a big bucket (no, it's not really a bucket) of spare computer parts, and I was sorting it a few days ago when I realized I had lots of extra sdram and a few pentium 3 processors. The only component I lacked to build a complete pentium 3 system (to act as a router or something, who knows) was a mobo, so I ordered a pull with VGA onboard, and it arrived today. I assembled the system, and it boots fine, all the lights turn on, the hard drive whirrs, I get an error beep if I take out the RAM, but I get a DPMS (power save signal/off signal) message on the monitor. I know the monitor works fine.

It's a simple problem, so I tried a few simple solutions, like minimalizing the system (disconnecting all hd's, any extra power drain) to no effect, and trying out a couple different AGP cards, also with no effect. I simply can't get a display of the computer POSTing or anything. I know there's gotta be a few more tricks to try, so please, all help welcome.

Thanks in advance.
