Biostar A880GZ crashes with FX-6300 and G.Skill memory

I've had issues with this motherboard for some time now. I've already rma'd this twice so this is my third board from them.

The first time it died it had a corrupted BIOS for seemingly no reason. It would just never post.

The second time I returned it was right when I got it back from them. The inboard Ethernet had died.

Now it's just acting up where the system would do a hard reset after a few minutes from booting into Windoes. I have never had it BSOD on me oddly enough.

So I'm facing a possible third rma (I'll more likely find a replacement)assuming I don't find some other cause. I already noticed that the inboard graphics are defective as it always shuts off the display 2 minutes after powering on the system.

Now I'm running memtest86+ with smp enabled and I noticed it froze after 3 minutes of running. I then ran it in single core mode and it worked fine. Could I have a bad CPU?

test one stick of memory with mem test. if it passes take stick out and put in your other one. If that passes i would be surprised. Make sure memory is running @ correct speeds and timings. Also use HW monitor to see what temps are doing rolleyes.gif

I ran memtest86 5.0 on both sticks and they both failed (froze) on the multicore setting. They both passed on the single core setting.

I noticed it only froze on the test for memory persistence or something like that.

This system is giving me other weird problems like it will do a hard reset if I jostle the case (or put the side panel back on). I think it's worth giving up on.

I'll do a test on another AM3+ board to see if the CPU is at fault in any way.

I'm running the latest BIOS from March 2013. It's possible that it got corrupted however it's not stable enough to update.

I've tested my Athlon II x4 640 in this board and got different issues. I was able to boot into Windows however 2 minutes in the screen went black and I had to reset the machine.

Also when I try to boot into Windows with the FX-6300 it would sometimes blue screen and tell me Clock_Watchdog_Timeout. The rest of the time it would hang at the Windows loading screen.

I then tried running Ubuntu off of a Live CD and it told me CPUs 0-3 were not responding (they were "sleeping").

So I'm guessing I have two dysfunctional parts here mad.gif

Sorry if I missed it, but what PSU is in that system?

Also, what voltages read out in BIOS PC-health information for 3.3V, 5V, and 12V?

It's an Antec EarthWatts 380 watt power supply. I'll check the voltages though I don't think they'll be off.

I've been testing it with an ASUS HD 5570 since the onboard graphics are terribly unstable. The system will automatically reset every 30 seconds when using the integrated graphics. It even does it in the BIOS.

So my voltages were low. I just put it in a different case with a different power supply for easier management.
This is a Rosewill R379M with stock power supply (300W)

12V - 11.74V
5V - 4.90V
3.3V - no reading

Also I tested my FX-6300 in my ASRock 990FX Extreme3 and it works perfectly fine biggrin.gif
