lightning is the flagship for MSI. custom PCB and best cooler. this just has a custom cooler, lightning will have 3 fans also.

I think the gaming version has a custom PCB too, but I only see that listed on other sites, not MSI. I'll be able to tell you when it arrives. I got the 290 gaming one.

It's true that most (if not all) MSi cards with custom coolers have custom PCBs. However they aren't all created equal of course like the Lightning is better than the Gaming.

Should I get the Sapphire 290 Tri-X or MSI 290 Gaming 4g?

Need to decide soon but I do not see any reviews for the MSI card.
