Need to decide soon but I do not see any reviews for the MSI card.

Hmm I don't know.. I would say whichever is cheaper.

Umm... well to compare it to the 7970, there is definitely an improvement in FPS. Just popped it in a few hours ago and have been cooking dinner, lol. But with a quick overclock got it to 1100 with +0.100v, stock was at 1v Temps were up to like 60 with 3dmark11 and stock clocks/fan. Up to 65 or so at 1100 core and custom fan profile. Memory I set straight to 1500 no problem.

I started upping the core and got some artifacting, tried 1200mhz and +200 and it blackscreened and I had to restart. Also when I moved the power control up to +50 it did the same thing. I'll have to play with it more to find the max stable settings. The card is taller (not longer, sticks out past the screw in area by like 1.5") than the 7970 and also comes with a backplate which was nice.

Any specific questions?

Here you go. Got much more stable results with afterburner than Trixx.... the exact opposite of what most 290/290x users have been saying on here. Very hard to get past 1100 on trixx. On Afterburner I have no voltage control, but with a power setting of _+35, the Core was stable at 1150. Passes 3dmark11 at 1175 and 1200 but artifacts. Memory was not stable at 1500, that was my first issue. Maybe with stock clocks on the GPU, but not with OC. Anyway, final result is very pleasing as just a quick look at 780ti's it's comprable with the GPU score at 16,609 and a total score of 13,759.

Here's a screenie, and it's getting much hotter than I realized. didn't have the graph on Trixx. it's getting up in the 85* range, maybe a few degrees more. Upping the fan speed doesn't help, had it locked at 100%, but I can't even hear it with the kids playing games next to me, and it's not even 1/2 the sound of a reference 7970 turned up to 70%.

I gotta download heaven for the next stability test at that speed.

What are the max VRM temps when you run Unigine or some other game benchmark? 80°C is a bad core temp, but you have it overvolted and overclocked.

Re: R9 290 Gaming

It's on Amazon , it'll just take 3-5 weeks (indefinite)

Mine is estimated to come between 2-7 and 2-14, but I'm hoping it gets here sooner than that.

Should have mine delivered by Tuesday (went for the 290 rather than X)) as I suspect the first UK stocks will hit on Monday.

I got few requests please smile.gif

1. Max oc with max out volts, with fans @75% Ungine heaven maxed out loop 20 mins.

2. Max sensor settings in gpu-z for VRM/Core temps

3. Case/cooling?

4. Point out ambient temps toward the end of the test as well.

Thanks.
