Interesting. I'll have to make a log and check to see if it's in there. Also I think most is my temp problems are probably due to my poor airflow in my case. I've always had rear exhaust GPU and also I'm watercooled for the CPU. I'm also in the 3rd PCI express slot, I've just always put the card down there since I put this build together. I tried putting it in slot one and it won't post. Apparently I have a bad PCI express slot.

I have ordered some fans to alter the air flow of my case. We'll see if it helps. also, I see that a few people are mentioning the coils on the 290 gaming, I do have to say that I have 0 coil whine.

No, the MSI R9 290 Gaming does not have vrm temp sensors. I emailed msi and they confirmed it.

Ah that's an odd decision they made, to remove the sensors. But thanks so much for sharing.

A "feature" carried over from the GTX 770/ 780 Gaming that they carried over the cooler from ;(

We need to see some reviews from hardware.fr / guru3d / etc with the thermal imaging I guess. Loss of a built in VRM temp sensor is not a good sign at all

Thermal imaging won't be enough for me, I want those sensors, especially for a card I plan to overclock. Maybe I'm just being anal since vrms can tolerate high temps. But I like to keep them low 80s or lower, and since I set my overclock limits by temp as much as stability/artifacting, I need to know what those temps are.

On the good side, MSI usually makes quality cards, and the TF line is solid. On the negative side, the 280x Gaming throttled due to vrm temps at release and needed a bios update to correct, and that too was a TF IV cooler.

Huh. Browsing that thread, a user says he gets vrm temps on gpu z and shows a screenshot. And yet MSI told me no vrm sensors. Wth.

edit, lol I think that thread references my post about msi's email on this. Here is the email:

update, emailed msi for a clarification:

And yet there are multiple users on that overclockers.uk thread showing their gpu z vrm temps. No idea whats going on here. Does UK get a different batch? Is MSI trolling me?

I would chalk it up to a misunderstanding of what you're asking about on their end.
