If you read overclocking guides, they would tell you that a CPU with higher FSB would perform similar to a CPU with lower FSB but higher clock.
Everest huh? Youre basing your findings on a single benchmark. And I doubt you actually tested it against an actual FX-62 and an X6800, opting instead to use the Everest provided reference CPU scores, which are not entirely accurite. How about provide a bigger variety of benchmarks? And compare them against actual CPUs in the same tests. Then Ill take you seriously. Or link to a set of proffessionally run benchmarks.

The difference between Netburst and K8 is much greater than that between K8 and Conroe.
Ok lets compare a 4GHz P4 to a 3GHz K8. K8 still wins.

In K8 chips, increasing the FSB makes a great difference.
In terms of memory bandwidth, yes. In terms of overall performance, no. Increasing the clockspeed of the CPU itself will make a much greater difference in performance.

People were talking about QuadFX being a better futureproofing platform, but after reading all the posts (cuz i havent being paying attention to new tech lately) I saw that QFX is on socket F, a server platform. This reminds me kind of the good old FX51 and early FX53 which were also on a server platform, socket 940. Admittedly, they did require registered RAM but that along with the socket ,which nothing was made for in the future, left them obsolete. I'm wondering if the same will happen to these? Is this possible or do I not have my facts straight?

Quad-FX is where ALL future FX processors will be put on.

We can't all afford FX processors though unless they've suddenly moved lower market, what's the athlon equivalent?

Actually the FX's have sorta moved into a lower market. You're still going to pay at least $700 for a pair of them though.

There are no Athlons available for the 4x4.

Multi-cores will be for those that multi-task like hell and don't have time to wait, me on the other hand? Not really interested in Quad Cores from either platform, they're expensive and I don't really multi-task at all.
More like time to waste, man. Hell, if I had the money I'd be investing in some multi-core system love right about now, seeing how I'm usually running AT LEAST three things at once, heh.

Backing up data, burning a movie back up, trying to play a new game, and browsing the internet all at the same time... Some of us people just have the ability to multi-task. And as mutli-threading becomes a programming standard, when I finally do go and close that other crap and do only one or two things, it'll be giving me a much more power AND love.

Sorry, but multi-cores were designed for ME. Now if I can just keep AMD and Intel fighting long enough to get one at a lower price...

People wonder about whether the platform is future proof. The fact that AMD will migrate its entire FX series to the platform does not really mean imo that it is future proof. If the platform flops (which is a possibility, given its uniqueness and price), then it won't be futureproof at all. I seriously think that AMD has to come with a single socket version also, so that other market segments also can enjoy an FX series chip (starting at $360).

Granted, performance is good, since getting close to an QX6700 (and in some cases beating it) is nothing to sneeze at. However, current architecture indeed limits overclocking. Once AMDs new technology appears (K8L), the platform might have a chance. I am a little concerned that it might get a 'bad reputation' before that happens.

Only future will tell whether it's futureproof Personally, I am not sure

Basically AMD's plan is to migrate FX processors to Quad-FX, and release high clocked mainstream processors, thus why there is plans for a 2.8 ghz 5400+ (512x2), a 2.8 ghz 5600+ (1024x2), and a 6000+. Quad-FX basically just lets people have the ability to have a really err.. Beefy computer. Alot of heat, but has alot of flexibility and options for upgrading. Once the price on the motherboard goes down it will be alot more worth it, well if you need the ability for 12 hard drives and 4 video cards lol.
