My power supply is almost 7 years old, should I think about replacing it?

better question is, do power supplies that die from age (and not a defect) take out the computer with them, or do they just kind of stop working one day, and give out

i know that under some conditions they can fry a motherboard/graphics card but it seems unlikely to happen at the end of the lifespan

it's a seasonic 550 ht, working fine, very highly rated, but i do think one of the transducers is a bit loose so there's a slight resonance/hum coming from it

thanks in advance

I would recommend replacing if you overclock or the PSU starts making whining noises.

i do overclock, but my CPU is using significantly less voltage and power than my last (E6750 @ 1.35v vs 4770k @ .8v idle, 1.22v load)

it's not a whine noise, just a gentle, low-pitched hum that is kind of hard to hear unless you really look for it
