PC shutts of in bios after new water cooling...

post #1 of 25
Thread Starter
I just installed my first water cooling setup, one I made myself with a 77 Bonneville Heatercore, a flow modified MCP350, and an Apogee water block.

Im powering the pump and the 120mm fans with an external hard drive case right now. However, whenever I turn the computer on it shuts off within 30 secconds. Sounds like the safety is kicking in and turning off the computer before the processor gets to hot.

I used a rice grain sized ammount of AS5 and spread it around very well, as well made sure the Apogee was nice and tight on the CPU. Any sugestions? I'm baffeled unless theres air trapped in the block thats causing it to heat up.

In case anyone needs to know my loop goes like this block>pump>radiator>block, the two 120mm fans are mounted with a shroud and are pushing rather than pulling.

If it takes 30 seconds, you should be able to get into the BIOS and check temps.
Check temps and monitor it 'till it blacks out.

Turn off Poweroff...
Maybe it's not finding a cpu fan and freaks out...

I know this sounds terrible... but I forgot where the exact temperature reading is in my BIOS is thus it takes me the whole 30 secconds to poke around and I still haven't found it.

Ok thaks the waperboy, it starts out at about 62 degrees celcius and I watch it jump up to 75. So its definately a waterblock problem... could air just be stuck in it or should I reseat it.

Edit: Also its not freaking out due to the CPU fan... it prompts me and asks if I want to continue without one as well as I plugged in a fan just to make sure that wasn't it.

Apogee's have 'finicky' mounting hardware. Make sure you have it tight and centered properly. It should not shut down, even with the pump off for at least a minute or so......

Redo-> then post back.
