Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Issue

Thread Starter
I just built a new rig:
C2D E6600
P5B Deluxe
600W XLCIO PSU
2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR 1000
HIS X1900XT w/ ICEQ
Arcitic Freezer Pro 7

At stock speeds/voltages, my system runs 44C idle... that seems high to me. Any suggestions on what to check?

BTW, i did use Arctic Silver 5.

I had to lap my concave cpu IHS, Lap the Heatsink, and pressure mount it with bolts instead of thise plastic pins to get normal temps. After that, the heatsink performed better than this stock mounted scythe infinity I have now.

I installed Core Temp and TAT, they are showing 32C idle. That is more than 10C lower than Asus Probe II.

Should I assume that Core Temp and TAT are correct, and just ignore Asus Probe?

I have same issue with the temp monitor software as well. Speedfan is consistently reading about 5C more than TAT. My idle temps are 35C idle and 43C load (fan speed controlled by software) with TAT. I have reseated the heatsink several times with the same outcome. Since my TAT temp looks fine, I just ignored Speedfan readings.

What mods would you suggest? I dont mind lapping the HSF, but kinda apprehensive about lapping the cpu.

First: fill out your specs in your user CP.
Second: Reset your cooler with Arctic Silver #5 (AS5). Do it as described in this pdf: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appi..._dual_wcap.pdf (page 4).
It worked for me. I also got a F7 Pro and my temp are 30 idle (cores are 21°C an 23°C).
