AMD Build Help

Thread Starter
Ok, after reading the advice from those in the Intel thread, I decided to go down the AMD route for my build due to bang for the buck and the fact that I need a monitor as well. I went slightly over budget, but I think this is my best bang for the buck. Please take a look and advise if I missed somehwere I can save some more money or if I chose something really crappy. My goals, max out FSX with add-ons, BF4, Photoshop, maybe starcraft II, etc. Everything at 1080p, mild OC in the future, but nothing crazy. I have 500GB HDD for now, DVD drives, case, etc. Currently have 450wat PSU, but I am thinking that probably won't cut it

this is not an optimal build, not a good combination of parts. the psu is mediocre and there are better options in this price range. the motherboard/cpu do not make a good pair at all.

If you can I would really try to get a 80plus gold/plat PSU. That's just my personal preference having to pay the bills and just like my cars, I like my computers to be efficient. Figure out how much your rig will draw and then double it and get the closest PSU to that value to maximize efficiency .

You could save a lot of money by getting dual channel RAM... they're on sale all the time just get the tightest timings you can.

Now for my main concern. You mentioned PS and SCII. Both of these programs are processor dependent. Having the 8 cores wont hurt, but they may not take advantage of all of them. If your main usage will revolve around these I would opt for an Intel chip. Really, imho, I wouldn't get an AMD chip unless you were only gaming. Even in that regard, an OC'd intel chip is usually better in game, although I'm not sure how BF4 and other games of that nature are reacting to new technology, so don't quote me on that. thumb.gif

Conclusion, wait a little bit for graphics cards prices to fall. That GPU seems like it would sell a lot more priced at $199 than $249. I guess I could say that about everything, but something about that card doesnt seem $250, but I'm just ranting now.
