Get E6300 or E6400? - Page 2

Ps I have the same cpu and board and i was able to hit 2.9 easy on stock. That is until I got the Tuniq Tower and shorted the pins on the backside of mobo with the backplate of the TT-120 ,Im soooo sad now.I should have stayed with stock cooling.Try again on his board,I feel confident with that cpu and board he can reach higher for sure! Good Luck

the 6400 has a higher multiplier so it depends on your mobo for overclocking like how you want to overclock its easier with a higher multiplier.

The 6400 can hit 3.2ghz usually no problem while many 6300's top out around 3ghz for 24/7 usage. I got the 6400 for the bump in average clocks and the higher multi. 400x8 is a nice sweet spot when using DDR2-800.

Yeah 6300 all the way i just got one, and i upgraded from an intel pentium 4 2.4 b 533 mhz fsb and its a HUGE jump... I built that comp about 3 1/2 years ago and i figured it was time to upgrade and im glad I did cause my new system blows my old system to pieces. Oh yeah and my 6300 (currently at 2.10 from 1.86) stays at 26 degrees C idle on stock cooling (with antec 900 of course).

If you want to overclock, get the E6300 ONLY if you plan on getting good DDR2. Otherwise get the upcomming E4300.... Intel are comming out with 4MB models of E6300/E6400... so in any case I'd wait.

Just my opinion and personal experience though. I'm at 3.25GHz with the E6300 24/7

what cooling do you use?

I'm at 3.2 ghz on my 6600 and I've already hit a thermal barrier with a lapped IHS/HSF (Zalman 9500)

CNPS9500 isn't a great overclocking HSF. I'm trading my in for a thermalright Ultra-120.

This is like deciding between the E6700 and the E6600. It's almost silly to get the E6400 since you can quite easily OC the 6300 just like the E6600.

I'd go with the E6300 and save yourself some cash.

I went for the E6400 because it was a measly $35 more than the E6300. Why scrimp over $35 in a $1200+ computer? The extra multi just gives you more overclocking options.
