SATA DVD+-rw drives?

Thread Starter
I recently moved my parts into a new case and noticed how much space those IDE cables take up in my case. I would love to have better airflow but I don't know if SATA DVD+-rw drives exist at a reasonable price. I looked on NE but didn't find any. Help please

Thanks,
Billy

They are out there, don't know about price, I thought the Egg had 1 or two models. I guess not, check on Froogle.

I'll look harder on egg but if they're not for a reasonable price I won't go for it. But seriosuly why have DVD drives lagged behind? IDE cables look so 1990's. Why aren't the sexy sleek sata cables for dvd as popular as they are for HDD?

I'm an idiot. I just found alot of them on new egg (search function duh ) And they are around 30-50 dollars. But I don't know if their specs are bad because I know 0 about dvd drives. Perhaps someone could have a look and tell me?

I would guess that there haven't been lots of SATA connectors on mobos until recently. I mean don't the new ethusiast mobo from Asus have like 8 or something like that.

Well I am no master od DVD drives either, but I've always thought all DVD drives are pretty much the same. Some spin and burn at different speeds, but those are easy to compare.

If your concern is space/airflow, you CAN ourchase round ide cables which are not as thin as sata cables, but are much more space friendly and easier to route/bundle than flat cables.

Just a thought.

SATA DVD drives have been around for over a year now, their just not very well documented.

My advice would be to pick one IDE drive and one SATA drive which you like the look of and check the specs of each - if they are similar go for the SATA one.

Samsung make good uns
