SanDisk Corporation is bringing to the market a 32 gigabyte (GB), 1.8-inch solid state drive (SSD) as a replacement for the standard mechanical hard disk drive. The new drive is initially aimed at enterprise users as the first step toward mass consumer adoption, according to the company.

what the hell is with those figures?

Quote:
It also can achieve an average file access rate of 0.12 milliseconds, compared with 55 seconds and 19 milliseconds, respectively, for a laptop PC with a hard disk drive.
Dunno about you, but it doesn't take 55 seconds for my HDD to access a file.

And also

Quote:
The SanDisk SSD achieves a sustained read rate of 62 megabytes (MB) per second and a random read rate of 7,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) for a 512-byte transfer. This is more than 100 times faster than most hard disk drives, according to the company.
Sata 300 supports transfer rates of up to 300MB/s, with a typical real transfer rate of jsut under 200MB/s. Im sure that the sustained rate is about 60MB/s at least. Someones done they're maths wrong I think!

This is IOPS, not MB/s. SSD's does transfer alot faster than general mechanical harddrives.

Two things I picked out that confused me.

100 times faster you say?

Quote:
People could expect a laptop PC equipped with SanDisk SSD could boot Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise in as little as 35 seconds.
35 seconds you say?

35 x 100 / 60 = 58.333 minutes to boot Vista if you don't have one of these hard drive?

Am I doing my math wrong or is this just not adding up?

Exactly. What the hell is this report all about????

@GONX - I was reffering to the sustained transfer rate, not the IOPS. Sustained transfer rate is measure in MB/s.
