Yamakasi DS270 AH-IPS Monitor 2560x1440 - Page 4

Hey what sellers did you buy from on Ebay? I'm interested in replacing my Dell's for one larger monitor and based on your experience would love to order from this particular seller?

Does the monitor make any buzzing noises while it's on or while gaming?

Oh and can you use a vesa mount?

Got it from Greensum. No buzzing issues with gaming or otherwise. It was 299 with free shipping and perfect pixel. Looks like they are still there for 299.90

Apparently we are going to need a Yamakasi owners club on OCN...

Well, since i was home due to the weather cancelling school for the day...I put the kid watching toons and I played with my new toy.

This monitor is quite impressive. On pure white, red, blue, and black screens I can see no dead or stuck pixels...so there might actually be something to that perfect pixel thing. The stand has I said before is not that great, but I'd say it is on par with the average stand. I love the glass surface which is mostly flat...there is a small raised plastic bar at the bottom and that is it. It will be very easy to clean and dust. I haven't seen it in the dark yet, but I think there is going to be very little back light bleed...maybe none (Edit: after seeing it in the dark there is some bleeding here, but I'd say about half of my old LED monitors and I never complained about the LED ones). The power LED is very subtle and dim...I've seen some with super bright LEDs that I have to cover with some electrical tape to keep my sanity.

This isn't much to do with the monitor, but 2560x1440 is amazing...I am not sure if I will even need to use AA any more. A much more substantial step up than 1440x900 to 1920x1080 was. I am going to enjoy this. Plus it has all the benefits of a IPS monitor...my old LED monitors look so dull and bland sitting next to it.

The bad...and nothing is really that bad.
I was a little surprised to find out there is no menu for this monitor. You control the brightness directly from two buttons. So there probably isn't much else you'd need a menu for I guess and I don't think I've ever used anything in a monitor's menu anyway save for brightness. Still just seems odd. There are also two other buttons that apparently do nothing. The behave like they are turning something up and down, but I don't see a change other that the power LED blinking. I am thinking they might be for volume if the monitor had speakers in it. It uses an external power brick...and that can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. It only has the one input...which I knew about before I purchased it. It will also take a while to get used to having a thick Dual Link DVI cable around, but again...I knew that was part of the package. The only other bad thing is that the manual is nearly all in Korean so if there is something in it I should know...it is going to take me a while to figure it out.

My overclocking success hasn't been that great, but I am still playing with it. Looks like I might only get 67Hz out of it. However, it will appear to start working again at 80Hz and all the way up to 93Hz, but when I launch a game with Vsync on it will cap out at 51fps. I think I need to get the pixel clock lower...or maybe I need a better cable. It is like it is bottlenecking at a certain pixel clock. If I have any luck I will be sure to share.

I was originally planning to get a 120Hz capable monitor...but if I did I would probably still be at a 1080p resolution. Not to mention I'd have to do some massive upgrading on my GPU to get up to 120fps in most newer games(and I might have to dump some money that way to keep 67fps at 1440P too).

So far, I am very happy with my choice.

Mind sharing what methods you are using to try and overclock? I've had zero luck here. I've added custom resolutions, left the stock one at the top, and when I reboot I just get a black screen with the backlight on, this all occurs before I even apply a new resolution. I'm using CRU btw and on an AMD card.
