Will wait till you guys sort things out, in later half of 2014.
Sorry not going to order black or grey until I start hating white. Sort of suspending myself ...well one good reason to stop building... smile.gif

Good luck.;

It's a little more complicated than that. Total changeover is about 45 minutes. That may not sound like much, but in a production environment, it's an eternity. The killer though is not that though - it's that the rest of the line has to be shutdown to avoid contamination. If we sold more white cases, it would be less of an issue, but the overwhelming majority are black. The white also has more QC issues, so in addition to the changeover problem, we have a higher internal cost for it.

Our production volume has increased (which is great! smile.gif, but we can't readily increase our paint capacity, so any down time starts to become a big problem and we gradually get behind on shipping orders, so something has to give. This will only get worse as new cases are introduced.

One thought is that we might treat white as a "special" color and do limited runs. The lead times would be longer than standard and it would cost a little more (to offset the increased production costs), but it might be one way deal with it. How would everyone feel about that? It's not like we try to think of things to upset people, but we have to face the reality we have.

I think most people can understand and sympathize with the situation.

But as a CL owner who chose white for the inside, and was hoping to use this case for 10+ years, and was hoping to be able to order accessories and replacement parts for as long as I own the case, I'm hoping you will find a way to keep offering white as an option.

I like your suggestions above. If white cost more for you guys to do...charge more for it. Schedule runs of white only once a week so that the production line is down for a minimal amount of time. Customers ordering white will just know up front that it will take about a week longer.

Maybe even schedule more "custom" paint runs during this once a week of changing out the paint guns. Build up your black inventory so that the majority of your cases ship even faster and keep costs down....but give customers the option of paying more and waiting longer for an even larger selection of colors. Yes?

This can all be handled by converting an old hippie van into a paintbooth in the back of the lot.....right?

Although Kevin mention a one year time frame, the truth is that I don't imagine ever eliminating white matte accessories, so anyone with a white case can relax if that is a concern. I was hoping to expand color choices last year when we added the gray to the Mercury line, but we started to hit the production ceiling. It might be possible to do as cpachris suggested and do special runs of colors with the understanding that the lead times would be longer than the "standard" black, if we scale back white production.

Would 2-3 weeks be reasonable lead time for white parts. 1-2 weeks has been my lead time so far in 2012 and 2013 for white parts.
If it needs to be longer, then go for that.
As far as white being a custom color...this is very expensive. Talking multiple hundred dollars for custom paint job. Very few have that kind of money.
Costing a bit more for white parts, put a cap on it like 5% more.

You guys should have internal meetings and come up with a plan.

White or not I'm never going back to any other case. Keep up the great work CL's.

This is something that we'll explore. Perhaps we can continue with white chassis at a greater lead time than black/grey, or maybe it will have to wait til we expand (which is almost inevitable given the volume increase we've seen just in the last 6 months alone). Right now it's not financially viable and is pushing our production back a LOT. Our lead times are what they are right now, solely because of the one or two white chassis that come in a week, which isn't fair to 99.9999% of the other customers who are waiting longer due to a couple of a chassis (pushing back lead time up to 3-4 days or so).

There's going to have to be an amicable middle ground, it's just finding what that actually is. As Jim stated, white isn't being terminated, just suspended until we can get a better foot hold of the production needs.
