Best 939 Motherboard

Thread Starter
Hi guys

I'm planing on building a new amd 939 rig. I was wondering what would be the best 939 motherboard. I will not be using SLI anytime soon. I've been looking around and can clearly tell that DFI would be the best option...Only problem is, which one do i pick? People have been saying that the expert is the best http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136166

But what makes so much better then the others? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136152

Higher fsb? more settings?

Some one please spread light on my confusion.

thanks

Why are you building the rig? What is your budget?

I'd totally recommend socket AM2 if you're going AMD. Socket 939 is about to be phased out and the only people still buying parts for it are people like me who have had their rig before the introduction of AM2. AM2 offers a more complete upgrade path so you dont have to toss everything in the future like what I'm gonna have to do in a couple of years.

It's a budget rig so going with a conroe would be hard. It will be used for gaming, school, and programing. I would like to build it right now but I'm pretty short on money. I'm currently using a dell i6000d with a 1.6ghz dothan, 2gb of ddr2 @ 533mhz, and a radeon mobility x300. I can go up to $700, but thats about it. I would like to keep it as low as possible.

I want the rig to be a good overclocker and last a long time. I would also like it to run games for another year at max settings @ 1680x1050

The video card i was thinking of is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130061

Case

Processor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103600

Ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145450

250gb HDD i can get any weekend for 60$

PSU I still need help on. Not sure if i should spend a lot on that right now. Maybe buy a cheap one now and a really good OCZ 700w one later

I was building the 939 rig in the hopes of upgrading to quad core in a year or two

Any suggestions would be great.

The Ultra D mobo is an enthusiasts mobo. It doesn't have many shortcomings and limitations most other boards have. It has a very wide array of bios settings for fine tuning.
Its also a very proven board and allows high overclocks.
They are finicky when it comes to ram (nothing but the best in quality!)
They also require a 480w psu (mininum for stability reasons).

Max settings@1680x1050? You're asking for alot my friend. I'd go with AM2 though as I recommended earlier. It can last longer that way.

How much longer would am2 last? I suppose i could salvage the ram when upgrading. I'm pretty sure that amd quadcore does not use am2.

As far as prices goes, they look similar to a conroe rig...
