I'm currently bidding on a new GTX 470 (EVGA Superclocked). With some luck, I think I'll be able to snag it for sub $100. If that doesn't pan out I may snag a R7770 as they're pretty cheap right now.

This PC is running a 750 Watt Corsair PSU. The 470, and R7770, appear to run at less wattage than the 260 so that shouldn't hold things back. The monitor is a fairly old 19" LCD so I don't think the GPU RAM will hold anything back either.

Either way, should end up with a decent PC. Sad the GTX260 took a dump... not exactly sure what happened there.

why are you looking for a gtx 470. you could grab a second hand GTX 660 for around $110 - $120. gtx 660 is on par with gtx 580. very efficient, draws much lesser power and runs much more cooler

the 7750 is actually faster then the gtx 260 and can be had for under $100 on the nvidia side a 650 would be around the same performace for around $110

Did either of you actually read the thread? He made up his mind, and is betting for something in his price range and that is actually a slight upgrade.

i am questioning the logic behind buying a hot, power hungry gtx 470 when the efficient kepler generation cards can be had for very reasonable prices in the used market.

I said what I said because you were going over his price range, and he already said he made up his mind on a 7770 if not a 470.

The 660 would be great but the one you posted ended up at nearly twice my budget, as do most of the used units on eBay.

For a secondary computer he can undervolt the card and just overclock when he intends to play games (470), The 7770 can also supply a good experience as well. Buddy of mine uses it along with an A6 and A8 computer for games and for a console player coming to PC he is quite satisfied with it

The likely cost difference between 260 and 470 wouldnt put it in a good light though.
