I should be receiving my corsair hx1050 80+ gold tomorrow . my current computer case is a cooler master 690 2 advance it has a grill on the bottom of the case where the psu goes . but my case is on the floor and its carpeted the fibers on the carpet are about a 1/4 inch high and the feet on the case are only 1/2 inch high . should I mount the psu with the fan facing up or down ? and also do they sell universal case feet that are taller then 1 inch ?

It really doesn't matter either way. It should come down to your personal preference. The PSU will keep itself plenty cool whether it is drawing in air from the outside or from the interior of the case.

I personally like to have the fan facing down and drawing in outside air, as long as the opening in the case has a dust filter on it.

If your 780s are at stock (no overvolting), then your power draw will never really get high enough to cause this PSU's fan to spin fast enough to be of any concern. All PSU fans that are on 'top' of the PSU are intake. So, if the fan is 'facing' the floor, then it'll be pulling in air, but it will never really be fast enough to create much cause for concern. However, I do recommend a dust filter. That way, you'll have peace of mind. Not only that, but the PSU will be using the cooler air underneath the case vs. the warmer air that's inside.

I always some ceramic tiles under the computer case and backup supply. OTOH every morally properly case has the PSU mounted at the top.
