seems like a small addition keeping this sector of OCN running when you consider how much time/ effort/ $$ people dedicate, was my favourite place for build logs.. To continue being patient or seek alt??worriedsmiley.gif

It looks like this competition in any form is dead. It is march and this was for January's mod of the month. Either a new contest needs to be started for 2014(maybe with a different mod in charge if el gappo is too busy to keep up with things) or just inform everyone that mod of the month is no longer a valid contest.

Even if there is no cash prize I would love to still have a chance to win this competition with my current or future builds. It's nice knowing that people appreciate the work you have put into something. I should also not that I don't think anyone who works for a professional PC moding company be included in the contest runnings. There are people who are able to manufacture much of their own case mods in their own shop which leaves those with just a few tools like a dremel or jig saw hoping and praying they even get a vote.

Agreed, the money means nothing. It's about the competition and the win.

 Yep. To ALL of this.

I think I need to add to this a little. But thank you for agreeing with me.

I need to clarify what I meant by PC modding shop, cause honestly there aren't that many of those around. But I think there is a certain level of modification where the lines of scratch built versus modified start to blur. There are many talented modders and system builders on this website and I don't mean to exclude anyone but there have been what I would call totally custom built machines entered in mod of the month. While these systems are modifications I think they take away from the work that other people do when they gut a case, take a dremel to it and make something rather extraordinary out of the simple interior/exterior of the case. We don't all have the tools needed to manufacture fully custom components for our cases. Some people go to a shop and have them make pieces for their cases which is fine. However some of the tools required to do some of these things cleanly and accurately cost thousands upon thousands of dollars which is well beyond the reach of your basic modder. IF this is to continue I think there needs to be separate categories. Something like

Basic Modifications: things like added a fan hole or a window and accent paint work, sleeved cables

Advanced Modifications: things like medium dremel work, fully painted/powder coated cases, Some custom part work like brackets for mounting things, and custom cables. Water cooled would start in this category I would think since its not really basic.

Extreme Modifications: this one should be obvious. Complete tear-down and rework of a case. or a totally scratch built case/mounting board

The extreme category would have less contestants and maybe it could be run as a yearly deal. Extreme system of the year or since this is OCN.. OCN System of the Year(would give some people a lot of time to get their systems built each year and would most likely have some rather amazing builds entered). The other 2 categories will see many more contestants than the extreme and they could still be put in the running for All 12 winners of both being put up for Mod of the Year.

I mostly agree but I think that even two categories would be enough. A category for the professional modifications and a category for beginner and intermediate modifications. Alternatively just have a mod of the month and mod of the year without categories for different modding levels. I also have another idea, which would be doing a mod of a season, by that I mean have a poll every 3 months and have a mod of the spring, summer, autumn, winter. This should solve the problem of not enough people entering the contest and should be easier to manage since it would only take place every 3 months.

spanner in the works, with the season one, who's season your summer or my winter biggrin.gifwink.gif

i must admit, it is a tough one for getting this right, is a few fans and a little water cooling a mod or is it a new desk to house it all.

i see 2 categories
System builds ( little modding, cover plates, water cooling, home made res, etc,)
Case mod ( dremmil /grinder work, fitting things that shouldn't, big changes in the case or complete new design and builds)

have 2 people judge placement for the classes if it a system or a case.

it would be like putting James Robocop build up against my Madness build. i dont stand a chance because it hasnt got the look, but its got the mod. and the voters go for looks and not always the mods.

but thats enough of that. so come on El show us some love and get this up and running! i need a MOTM badge! keep your money biggrin.gif
