Need help with Geforce 7950 gt

Thread Starter
I just purchased an evga geforce 7950 gt 256 mb. Did i make mistake? Will the 512 mb version make a huge difference. My old card was an evga geforce 6800 gs. On 3d mark 05 I was getting a score of around 5000. My new card is getting around 8700. That doesn't seem like a huge increase to me. I play games like tomb raider legend and splinter cell double agent. Should I return the 256 mb card and get a 512 mb, or will it not make that much of a difference? I haven't overclocked anything. I want to make sure it is really worth it to go through the hassle of RMAing the card. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

How much of a difference if there in price between the 256MB verison in comparison to the 512MB one? If there's like $15 I'd return it and get the 512MB Verison. Also, what is your budget? Maybe on Newegg or tankguys they have a lower price than where you are getting it from.

Thanks for the replies. i actually bought the card at Newegg. It was around $200 with a rebate. There are some other cards on Newegg that are 512 mb that are close to the same price. One is a Foxconn and there is a Leadtek for $239. I don't know or really trust the reputation of these cards. Does anybody know anything about these cards or companies? I am a fan of EVGA, however it would cost me around $250 for the 512 mb card and I don't know if I want to spend that much. The most I would like to spend is between $225 to $240. Anyone know of other deals on Newegg that would be better or have any opinions on these cards?

Would Newegg charge you a 15% restocking fee? If so, you can possibly just Step-Up if the new 8-series cards come out in 90 days.
Once again...

Newegg said they would waive the restocking fee if I was to buy another card. Are you referring to the EVGA step up program? I was looking at that. It seems like you get the value you paid for the initial card. So I would get about $200 for a new card, correct? However, it also seems like you need to purchase the new card from EVGA and their prices seem really high. It doesn't seem to me that you save all that much money. Also does anyone know if they will take a trade in if you cut out the UPC for a rebate?

Ok. What if I went with this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150209

I know it is 256 mb, but it seems like it has good performance. How would it compare to the card I have? Would I be able to play Tomb Raider Legend and Splinter Cell Double Agent smoothly? I know it only has 20 pixel pipelines instead of 24. Is that a huge issue?

The 7900GS is a slower card than the 7950GT. It would be a downgrade.

Additional 256MB allows your games to run at higher resolution better like 1600x1200 or better. It also allows more textures to be stored.
