256 versions hit higher clocks than the 256's, but they are a bit slower - i have a 256 Mb version, and would heartily recomend the 512 version of my card

Thread Starter
thanks for all the replies. The reason I thought of the geforce 7900 gs is because that particular card if factory overclocked really high (600/1600). I didn't realize that the 7950 gt can overclock higher. Also, my current monitor is a 19 inch lcd that only supports up to 1280 x 1024 resolution, so I don't know if the 512 mb card would help that much.

This is the card I got: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130061

It runs beautifully, and it'll run just about any game for the next two years that isn't Vista-only (like Alan Wake!).

Next year it's Quad-core, 8800gtx+, and Vista for me!

I also wanted to mention that with this card it doesn't overclock toooo much, only because EVGA overclocks it right out of the box. I think the 7950Gt runs @ 550mhz, and the EVGA one runs at 600mhz.
