Help with OC Q6600

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

First of all, keep in mind that I'm a newbie with limited knowledge I read from a few tuts and a couple of failed OC attempts. I'm probably doing something wrong but can't figure out what. wth.gif

POV mode smile.gif
Ok, I'm in the mobo intelligent tweaker, I'm looking at changes for the multiplier (6-9), then I got the FSB, PCI frequency (don't know if that's relevant) and then the SPD (which confuses me the most duo to the always mentioned ratio with the cpu clock, or something). Next is the CPU voltage which from what I understand impacts the temp of the cpu cores. Mine is 1.275 in blue letters (default).

CONSIDERING my config, and the fact that I'm not really at this point looking for some high OC, (I'd be really satisfied with a stable 3GHz), what setting would you recommend?

Ask for any additional info, I did my best to put all the relevant part names in my rig, but I'll do my try to add anything I missed if needed. rolleyes.gif

OK, I've managed to get to 3.0GHz (333x9), thus leaving the ram clock on it's native 667 and I've only slightly increased the voltage from 1.275 to 1.3125 and so far it seems stable (48 hours running straight with some HD viewing and casual gaming).
I'm interested to see if I can push a bit more since I'm still experiencing hiccups in my browser when handling multiple tabs, usually 4 or 5 Youtube videos + social networks.
As far as I've seen , the next logical increment is to try 400x8 (3.2GHz) and 400x9 (3.6GHz) but I'm really confused what I should do with my RAM FSB accordingly? Leave it at 667 or increase to 800, or even 1000?

400X9 means your RAM will be set at 800 MHz, 1:1 mode. Your RAM should be capable to run at 800 MHz.\

If you want more help, upgrade your BIOS to the latest version available by your manufacturer and then post pics of it here and I will tell you what settings to use.

The pics you posted already are no help at all and are largely irrelevant to your overclock.

I had this CPU for years and for that level of OC you can leave the VCORE on auto in your BIOS settings.

With that level of OC, you'd have enough for more general tasks.

I dont think that is the speed of the memories you're having problems with your browser. Maybe is something else. You have a robust plataform, but with more OC in that CPU you will not see major improvements.

.
Where can I see what version of BIOS I currently have?

What does AUTO setting do anyway? Maybe you could do that but it depends on the Mobo, cooling and PSU, doesn't it?

You can see that from within Everest as well as from within your BIOS. It will be smt like "BIOS version XXXX". Then you visit your motherboard's page at your mobo's manufacturer website and you will probably be able to download the latest BIOS for your board there.

When you leave in AUTO the VCORE, you're lettng the BIOS to manage the VCORE, according to the needs of the system.

Thw Q6600 with a 25% OC, not require much VCORE, that's why i recommend you to leave it in AUTO.

I couldn't download your Mobtherboard's manual, but in every BIOS with OC settings you've got the possibility of leaving this parameter in AUTO. If you got any printed manual of the Motheboard, maybe there it's a complete detailed list of the BIOS options.
