[Inside Gaming] Steam OS vs Windows 8 - Page 4

Yes because everyone has so much room in their house to have several desks with PCs on them.... It's completely different than keeping your old consoles... I have 3 consoles in my entertainment center, you can't keep 3 desktop PCs in that small of an area. At least not without buying a bunch of components to have them all connected to the same monitor, keyboard and mice, which would be lots of extra costs. Steam OS costs nothing. Bad comparison.

It's a BETA, expect it to not work as you want right now. Useless original post is useless.

^ to add, some of us don't like a crap ton of hard drives. Not only do we not like a lot of them, I've had a 1TB in under 6 months already half way full. Mostly games from Steam! Then there's my music/backup drive and my Linux drive. I don't really want another hard drive, 3's enough and if I get a 4th, it's for OSX as I'd rather have operating systems that can do different things than different versions of windows for games.

A friend of mine has the same issue, he bought a bunch of older games on Steam and it's been headaches getting them to work, it's frustrating.

Vmware or its open source cousins work without rebooting.

4tb hard drives can be partitioned and use much less power than 4x 1tb hard drives.

But anyway, the thread title is 1 os as a gaming os verse another os as a gaming os.
With all of SOS's shortcomings I don't see how it can be considered competitive at this point. If SOS gets ONLive style game streaming (and therefore 100% game compatibility) I will build or buy a box absolutely, but until then...meh.
