what confuses me is the outright endless contradictions and terrible attitude displayed. Imagine the RMA process and customer response?
Let me remind people that technically MP3 measures worse than FLAC and if you care about your music then perhaps you still want the so called masked bits that MP3 takes away which still add to the overall sound ?
Now here we reach a crossroads ..
digital / dance music is often on separate channels and does not resonate and interact with the other channels. Acoustic recordings most certainly do require sound stage interactions to help with the feeling that you can place the instruments and that those instruments can resonate off separate instruments to form the bands sound .. its why live sounds so good. With MP3 you asking for the codec to remove this. I think the majority of people watching these videos listen to heavily compressed electronic dance music, 8 bit tunes, computerised orchestral stuff, dub step etc..
So yea the differences will be harder to spot but you know what... there still there !
Its like running medium resolution textures vs high .. lets all run medium because there isn’t much difference?? ohh hang on even 1080p isnt good enough, were now looking at 4k and 4k textures to match! chasing an old compressed format from when the internet had less bandwidth seems pointless and in fact i think a lot of the sound signiture of MP3 lends itself to a nostalgic romanticism of how the internet/computer music experience used to 'sound'
finally, people spend money on cables, transports,DAC's, isolation, Power filtering, you name it .. silly money just for a perceived tiny marginal gain yet here we have a consensus that FLAC can sound around 5 - 10% for most and i would imagine for acoustic a lot more. So that’s real gains technically measurable ... for free.
If i ran an audio business i wouldn’t set my stall up and claim higher fidelity files were pointless just because most wouldn’t hear a difference.. surely couldn’t we say the same for the sort of external DAC's / Headphone amps people are so into nowadays?
its just a backwards mentality
