Conroe > 939 > AM2

My opinion.

I would be a lot easier to evaluate each build if you posted the item description as the link. Would get more responses and many people aren't willing to sit there and open 10+ links.

All things considered I would say either go with the 939, or the Conroe. If you can swing the extra money, do the Conroe, however, I dont think you would be disappointed with the 939 build either! The reason I consider AM2 to be the weakest of the builds is for afew reasons, first off, the processor isnt know to overclock as well as the other two on average, secondly, the advantages of DDR2 on the AM2 platform are not that large, third, the AM2 chip as less cache then the opteron and the conroe. Sure it may be futureproof, however, AM2 really doesn't have a "future" as it was a platform with the purpose of having a DDR2 system to hold AMD users over until K8L.

Over all, my vote goes to Conroe!

The Conroe system will give you the best performance. The AM2 system has alot of future longitivity to it which is nice for K8L. The 939 rig should be just a fall back plan at this point as it's old technology and DDR ram is being replaced by DDR2 which AM2 and C2D run.

yeah conroe's performance is a lot more than any AMD, someone on here made a speed converter, and a 3ghz amd = 2.2ghz conroe, and a 3.5ghz conroe = 4.66ghz amd which you will never reach

I'd be proud to own any of them!
For a few extra bucks I'd have to say the Conroe system, it'll oc pretty good.

Keep in mind, the 939 system would be even cheaper if you bought used parts from the forums "For Sale Section" if you needed to keep the price down.

We all know its hard to keep the price down when we salivate at the thought of
every last push with performance. You just gotta keep a budget though.

I want to go with the conroe, but i'll loose my DFI board...I know silly reason, but it is a reason. That and the fact that it's more expensive. Is a DFI UT board coming out for the conroe's anytime soon?

my vote is for the s939 setup, but I would get a 2x1gb pc4000 kit; the Gskill 2gb kit is out right now at Newegg but they say some more will be in by the 8th of Jan for 209.00. My s939 is going to hold me till DDR3 boards come out and quad setups mature. Sure Conroe is faster but like you said you can keep some of your hardware and with alittle more ram and highend single or SLI midrange vidcard setup you can run Vista soundly, a cpu 2.6ghz or higher with what the other hardware you listed will give it a 5 level support for Vista and since you have a Nvidia mobo you can take advantage of there DX10 cards down the road. And even bad steppings for the 165 Opty can usually hit atleast 2.6ghz. Plus 165's at the egg are dirt cheap in comparison, which you can put savings towards other stuff. Just my 2 cents I am sure you will be happy whatever route you take.

I would say go with the conroe then the am2 setup. It is known at this point that the C2D run better than the am2, though they are that little more expensive.

As for the am2, the 3800+ oc's nicely, from what i've seen usually up to about 2.7-2.8Ghz. And with am2 you can upgrade to am3 later because am3 chips will fit into am2 boards.

The 939 setup is going to be hard find really soon because they aren't making 939 chips anymore, so they are selling like hotcakes. If you can find one and want a good stable setup, go with the 939
