[baidu] AMD kaveri early review - Page 22

I'm thinking it just plains OC's lower/clocks lower. GCN 1.1 with 512 Cores should require about as much power as 384 VLIW4 cores since it's GCN and clocked lower. (Basing this as the 400 core VLIW5 5570 is about same power consumption as an desktop 7750 GDDR5). It should be as hot as the current chips imo so heat isn't an issue as well. So the lower clocks are reflective of bulkbeing a lower clocker or the chip not being a high clocker and the lowering speeds improves their yields.

Still can't wait for the reviews to prove me wrong (hoprefully) XD

I don't think your opinion trumps empirical evidence, good sir. wink.gif I doubt heat or clocks will be too bad an issue since this is only a 4nm die shrink, or 12.5%.

Early leaked benchmarks showed floating point performance dropped slightly but integer performance increased close to 30%.

When it comes to this "review", The Geekbench score is off for the A10-6800k. Way too high so it's not looking to legit to me.

Also fps in games when comparing Kaveri to Richland is very minimal. I cant see how that's even possible. Even just the switch to GCN would bring a increase in fps.

All that being said, there are a number of applications in which the new AMD APUs are uniquely suited for. In particular, Media center PCs that either don't need or have space for a discrete video card would be perfect for the A-series APUs. They have plenty of graphical power for most tasks a media center PC would be needed for, and can even cover light gaming duty when needed.

Kaveri will be used for alot more than HTPC's. Even Richland is good enough for most people even some gamers. I use a Llano A4-3300 for a HTPC and even that thing is overkill. It only uses 30% gpu while playing 1080p x264. HTPC's will soon be replaced by embedded ARM devices like the rasberry pie and if you want to game we will stream over steam. Somebody is bound to make a plugin for xbmc.

My opinion did little to nothing to curb its use.

So tell you what If you think its a lie, prove to us why you think so. Just spouting infantile rhetoric is not proof of anything other than your own defiance.

It's still entirely synthetic meaning its results mean nothing. I also believe Cinebench R15 is fair to AMD now, too...At least Cinebench is based off a real program, too.

It's using a new process which is worse I believe, it could potentially be that we see lower stock clocks because of that but only lose a little bit of OCability...I hope although I honestly doubt it.

Yeah, another epic fail.
Gaming performance is to be expected ,without proper iGPU drivers. As for the cinebench part,I guess under a SSE2 workload, there are simply no winnings to be had, no matter what the arch. I thought that there is NDA for those things, what are they doing on that puget systems site? This review sports a horrible selection of benchmarks and gaming settings ,too.

Well, they said AMD gave them permission to release benchmarks because they're spehshul.

Everyone is a critic. Easy to be I guess. To me however Steamroller/Kaveri looks to be a great foundation to build on. Remember is Revision A.

The only questions for me yet are how it will scale and how much heat it puts out when overclocked. I personally cant wait to put one under water. Preferably an APUless version when they come out.

All the other software that comes with it are just icing on the cake.
