[baidu] AMD kaveri early review - Page 24

Apparently it's every GCN 1.1 card, so Oland, Bonaire, and even Hawaii based GPUs. Oland is the R7 250 and I think 240, Bonaire is the 7790 (may or may not work), R7 260X, and R7 260, and Hawaii? We all all know Hawaii! Do we know how many ROPs are in the 7850k's iGPU? I'm going to assume 16, but this is the SPUs/TMUs/ROPs of a 7850k and 2x260Xs: 2304/144/48. Even just a single 260X is impressive and roughly between full Pitcairn and Tahiti XL: 1408/88/32. And yes, you can run it with four 290Xs (as far as I know), resulting in a total of 11776/736/272. No, it won't scale perfectly, but yes, I do find big numbers exciting. What made you guess? wink.gif

With a 260x it would probably perform like original Pitcairn (7870ghz) (due to scaling issues, lower clock speeds etc).

If they do let it run with every single GCN 1.1 card, that is very interesting. I wonder how they are handling the workload between the cards. I mean like an 260x is probably close to twice as fast (if not twice) 7850k iGPU

Check out the most recent pages in THIS thread. Around post 2680 or so is when iGPU talk starts. GCN 1.1 has improved on a lot of issues.

On the gpu front a little under or a little over we can't tell yet since we'd need to know what bottlenecks the DDR3 brings and how much of this is negated by the unified memory pool.

As for the cpu side Kaveri should wipe the floor with the i3 which isn't that strange considering the Steamroller cores might be weaker they come in double numbers compared to the i3.

I wish they release new FX 8 core that can easily go 4.8ghz with less powerconsumption

Intel still wins in FPU calculations. Are they supporting HSA/will devs be able to use their iGPUs?

They are doing something regarding OpenCL support for the iGPU, but their iGPU is just bad for things like that as far as I heard, very different compared to what AMD and NVIDIA stuff can do. It does not do something like HSA I think.

They do have something interesting regarding computing that's pretty similar to a current graphics card, which is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_MIC

It's a bunch of simple x86 cores that have extensions that make them vector processors. That's what they could use to counter by stuffing it onto the CPU die instead of their current iGPU architecture. This is something that would happen years into the future, not something that can happen immediately.
