If your temps are real bad, take it out, Cpu and HSF as one unit...See if you cant get a hack saw with fine teeth at least 32TPI and just saw it off.Right in the joint between the HSF and CPU....Be real careful not to bend your pins on the CPU...Then just sand down each side till it's usable again....You may tear up your HSF but it's cheaper then buying a new CPU....

but the thing is how is he supposed to remove the CPU if there is a metal plate that only exposes the IHS and holds down the PCB?

(the gray thing surround the cpu)

im pretty sure the CPU and HSF are both stuck to the motherboard now.

He can't, cause the way socket 775 works is the cpu goes in the cradle, metal bracket over it and holds it down, then heatsink on top. If he tried to pull it out like a 939 or something, he would destroy his mobo.

Yes for the CPU you should have used AS5 Thermal compound and not adhesive. Now its semi permanent. You should be able to free it but ut will take some work and the use of methilated spirits.
