Volt Modding a XFX 6800GT PCI-e

Hi Guys,

Since ive got a bit of a wait before the midrange DX10 cards come out im thinking of giving my current card a run for its money.

Is it possible to improve the performance of this card through a Vmod and how would I go about it?

The card is a little unstable at Ultra speeds (400/1100) so I think it could do with a bit more juice.

My work collegue is off work next week but when he returns im nicking his multimeter, conductive pens, trimmers and hot glue gun for this purpose if the mod is possible/worthwhile

What do you think guys?

Do you have the reference 6800GT? It should have the same PCB as the ultra.

If you're really good w/ soldering etc, see here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...g/voltmods/132

Otherwise, if you do have a spare PCI card to save in case of a bad flash, you can mod your BIOS using NiBiTor to increase voltage to 1.4V (same as ultra). Or if you're really ambitious, take an Ultra bios and flash it into your GT, but make sure your ram can handle ultra speeds first.

Hope this helps

EDIT: GT's 3d core voltage is 1.33V, while Ultra is 1.4V, don't go higher than 1.4V if you have stock cooling.
