Need a Smartphone recommendation

Thread Starter
Hello OCN, I need a smartphone recommendation please.
This will be my first smartphone.

No Apple / iOS or Windows phone, should be an android.

I will mostly use it for browsing, so the screen should be rather big, but not too big (ca. ~5"). Resolution should be 1920x1080 or above.
I won't play games with it. Batterylife should last rather long, so that when I start in the morning and use it heavily, I only have to charge it at the evening.

550€ Budget max.

Thanks!

Edit: No Nexus 5. Seemed perfect, but I can't obtain it where I live (no creditcard, other places besides Google too expensive).

can't go wrong with Samsung GS3 or GS4.

that resolution is insane for a phone screen. 720p is already overkill. Do you mean you want to drive external video with it? So 1080p out?

you wouldn't get that kind of battery life out of the nexus anyway unless you were careful with your power management. The more stuff you leave running 9bluetooth, wifi, gps etc..) the more power it will use.

I'm tempted to point you at a motorola maxx simply for the battery life.

it would help if we knew what your actual needs are. What will you use the phone for?

Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 for 4G/LTE. Dat charger. And it's Google's own, so you would be guaranteed at least a few major Android upgrade, WITH STOCK.

Also, that wireless charger.

I wrote in the OP that unfortunately the Nexus 5 isn't obtainable for me because I don't have a credit card for Google Wallet, and other places besides Google have overkill prices for the Nexus, or don't have the 32GB version (425€ only for the 16GB version...sure).

Yup. With 525€ a bit on the pricy side, but as long as it's a good phone I would be okay with that. Is it good tho?
I just red in the other thread that it has issues like:

-gets too hot
-slimy back
-onscreen buttons
-laggy camera viewfinder
-pictures (whites blown out @ times)
-camcorder panning bug
-font bug
-backlight random dim/brightening bug
-23 GB free

I don't care about pictures or videos that much, space is probably okay too, but font bug/backlight random dim/brightening bug/gets too hot? With that money, I want a phone where I don't have to make too much trade offs. Will look further into it.
Edit: I don't worry about the slimsy back, as there are cases for that.
Edit2: Another option would probably be to wait for the new phones coming out early 2014. Meh.

Edit3: Scratch all that. Decided it might be better to not go full out with the first smartphone price wise, better pick something a bit cheaper and then buy one of the nicer newest models of 2014 later this year.

Well, slimy back is a more... fixable issue. I only recommended it as one of my friend did, and he goes so far as to claim "If my phone dies within the next two years, I will STILL get a G2 again in a heartbeat." And from what I've read it looks to be good spec that will last you a bit.

If that fails, go for the HTC One. In black. Because it's superior in matte black. Nom.

If that fails you in terms of budget, HTC One Mini? tongue.gif

IMHO You might as well go full out for first smartphone, so as not to lament it in days very soon within purchase, and wanting to get another phone. Go fully out CORRECTLY first time, and no need to spend extra money in at least two years. Getting an inferior phone with a chance of breaking/being outdated soon is money waster. Same with computer hardware.

Came to think about it, yeah, you're probably right. I will probably get the LG G2. Thanks for the help@all!
