Thermalright HR-03 Experience

Thread Starter
Just thought I would drop a post in about the new HR-03 VGA cooler. I have an x1800XT card in a lian-li v600B case. With stock cooler I was running 55 C @ idle and 75 C @ load. With the HR-03, I am running 55 idle and 65 load. Not too bad a 10 C drop but get this .. those are passive temps. Thats right nothing but the built in 120mm side fan on the case now. So better temps and no noise from that load stock cooler. I'm a happy man. If any were looking for an air VGA cooler, I can recommend this one.

Running a X1800XT fanless? Ouch. You should consider getting one.

And again, considering that is passive, those are some damn good temps. How long were you running it under "load"?

Were you running purely passive? Or was your CPU fan moving some air across it in certain configurations?

CPU air flow would be almost non existant in my case across the card. Remember I said I have a 120mm fan on the side of the case that lines up where the VGA card is. That is why I dont run a fan on the VGA cooler itself. "Load" was done via playing eq2 for 4 hours straight at 1680x1050 @ high settings.

link to my case so you can see where the case fan is.

aye i used ati tool to record what the temp was, but i didnt use it to load the system. However my stock cooler temps and hr-03 temps are both recorded playing eq2 for several hours with the same ambient temps. So though my 'load' temp doesnt = true max load of the card, the comparison is still valid to say it cooled better than my stock without all the noise. If I have time tonight, I'll run the Ati tool load and see what i get.

Ok I ran a couple of more test for a quick summary of my initial experience with the HR-03. I used atitool and also tried taking the side fan off the case and laying it on top of the cooler so it blew directly on the cooler instead of pulling the air away from the side. Remember I have a small case with less than optimal airflow, plus the AS5 hasnt cured yet I am sure. Ambient temp around 26 C.

IDLE
Stock 56C
Side-Fan 56C
Top-Fan 41C

EQ2
Stock 75C
Side-Fan 65C

Stock ?? (Im not putting stock back on)
Side-Fan 81C
Top-Fan 71C

Anyhow thats the end of my initial impressions, I have a wizard to level.
