I should've been more clear -- most 780s are fine. I'm running 3 Asus DC2s under OS X Mavericks and Win 8.1. It is the B variant of the GK-110 that has issues... I believe most Tis and Titans are -Bs.

Are people getting normal 780s that are -Bs now?

the 290 has slower memory speeds but more memory and higher total memory bandwidth. if you're not maxing out the 780's memory it is quick. it will run with the 290. When you get to the really big resolutions where the 780's memory actually gets full, the 290 starts to kick butt on the 780. if you're running a triple monitor 1080p desktop the 290 is your boy. There are other factors as well, like number of shaders and whatnot.

GPUboss uses synthetic benchmarks for it's ratings, which generally favor nvidia, and passmark in particular, which almost always heavily favors nvidia. They listed the contest as too close to call.

price/performance wise for you at least, the 290 should be the same price or very near to the 780. if it's not it's overpriced. Since you are not going for gigantor monitor the 780 weakness at those resolutions should not affect you at all.

as for openCL, think of it as being a bit like directx. While that is not at all an accurate statement, it may be enough to give you an idea.
I did but I didn't mean in this thread, I'm just wonder about the cards, I was just saying that I prefer Nvidia.

Then you are in luck. Due to mining fervor, the nvidias are exceptionally competitive. plus their generally smaller memory sizes will not affect you.

For a 770 whats with EVGA's 2770, 2771, 2773, 2774, 2776 and the 3771? Whats the best? Would a 4GB 770 card make any sense?
it seems the 4gb 770s only make sense in sli (though they do make a lof of sense there). the 2770 and 2271 have lousy coolers, but if you're going to do a replacement cooler anyway they're the best value. AGH! i researched this a few days ago for their 780 versions. IIRC the way it worked was they went up by cooler and overclock. first by cooler quality, then with an overclock on that cooler. if you;re comfortable doing your own overclocking the oc versions are a waste of money. Basically you're just buying the cooler, and possibly binning on the chip, though there;s no way to know that. if you can overclock (it's dead easy) get the cheapest one with the cooler you want on it.

The 2774 and 2776 (ACX cooler) are only $329 pretty much the same price as a non OC'ed one. I'm thinking the 2776 is the best value? ehhh?

Oooooo classified http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-03gp43788kr lol

there's a chance the oc version is better binned. Small one, but there.

So 2776?
assuming the prices haven't changed, which considering how fast they tend to do has likely already happened. the 'best value' GPU is rarely best for more than a day or two. they get bought up.

Do or do not do. Spending a week agonizing over it just means your info gets outdated/
