GTX Titan SLI versus GTX 780 TI TRI SLI

Thread Starter
I am currently running on EVGA GTX Titan SC SLI. Will upgrading to EVGA GTX 780TI TRI SLI fetch any significant increase in performance? For CPU, I am running the 3960x @4.7Ghz 24/7. For RAM, I am using the 32GB (4x8GB) corsair dominator platinum. I will be upgrading to a 32-inch display if I go ahead with GTX 780TI TRI SLI setup.

Third Titan is the best option then you can utilize the 6gb of vram.

O.o What on earth are you doing with that thing?! Actually it matters. the titan x2 under many but not all circumstances will be slower. Slower even than 780ti x2. those exceptions are generally various kinds of specialized compute.

if you're talking about gaming, and you're not running some kind of specialized professional VR flight simulator or brokerage AI or something, two of either of those cards is more than enough for anything. Actually one is enough, but allowances are made for certain kinds of insanity at ocn.

true. horrifying but true. i do wish to know the intended purpose of the device though. you could run an industrial grade VR flight traffic control simulator on that, Complete witrh all 5 video projectors for the VR dome.

Hi All:

Thanks all for the replies. The intended use of my setup is for intensive gaming at the highest setting on a single 32-inch display.

Just wondering if gameplay framerates will benefits from a GTX 780 TRI SLI setup as compared to my current pair of titan.

honestly, with a single monitor i don't see how. if you're getting 120fps on ultimate, there's simply no point. That's a heck of lot of power. The third titan makes more sense in any case. not only is it cheaper, but it will have vastly more memory available.

i'm conjecturing on your intent here, but i'm guessing you're considering trading your 2 titans in for 3 780tis straight up. The annoying bit is i can't find benchmarks for either card in tri sli. one would assume that the titan would tri sli better than the 780ti because of the memory issue but there is just no data.

people seem to be avoiding comparing these two cards.

The best i could get was find sites that compare titan sli and 780ti against 7970 cf
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gtx_780_ti_sli_geforce_review,23.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_Titan_SLI/3.html

it's really rough, but 780ti sli and titan sli look pretty close to even. This implies 3 780tis will beat two titans. 3 titans? no clue, held a gun to my head i'd have to say probably not though.
