If I can guess based on past experience:

  • Double thickness and weight due to additional layers and traces vs reference
  • Tantalum Capacitors
  • Hilariously over-specced (but appreciated!) power delivery system
  • Unlocked voltage

PCB has been posted online for some weeks now already. There is a thread here but you can also just google it.

Wonder if anyone will see these at all. I cannot tell actually the reason these cards are "unobtainium" at this point.

Funny how no one saw it coming with AMD putting out cards at decent prices and the mining culture blows out the good deal when you can find a card. Good old supply and demand. I'm not yet sure anyone outside of AMD & (newegg/amazon) know how many cards actually sold in the 290(x) series. Was this a minimal launch with low supply & coupled with mining buying taking the rest or just low supply and mining getting every back-ordered card to come in? or both...

In any case, so many new products that are such a pain to obtain.

IE I'm not sold on believing everything I see on the internet is all. So much is hype...

*sigh* yet another R9 290X with only 1DP output hmmsmiley02.gif

Where's a 5x1P 1080p 120Hz / 5x1p 1440p / 3x1 4K enthousiast to turn? A 2 year old 280x with 30-40% worse performance (certainly at those resolutions)?

If it's anything like my 780 Lighting then it's a work of art with a monster PCB.

But why release it so late is the question ?

Make them all DP++ and you'd have the most versatile card ever.
