I hadn't realized there were such people.

There is little to no chance you can see the difference between 120fps and 122fps or 115fps 125fps , perhaps even 120fps and 144fps is only a subconcious realisation over time that it feels a little more fluid

however, for definite 120fps is visibly faster looking (i don't actually like it) than 60fps. Perhaps its because im used to films dream life quality at 24fps but i find 96fps (24x4) retains the dream / movie (slightly surreal) quality but adds a faster look than 60fps. Again i dont like 120fps to me over 100 - 110 starts to feel like a handycam effect.. its great on battlefield where you want that live / sports/soap opera look for for other games it just looks cheesy and its tiring

This is pretty much it for me. I personally believe it is a placebo effect. I know I certainly can't see anything above 40 or so. I also can't tell the difference between an mp3 or ogg vs flac or whatever. But I don't spend my time trying to prove "them" wrong or anything. No two people are alike in sensitivity to this or that. I rather like not being able to tell the differences. Means I don't have to spend a load of cash to keep up with the latest and greatest of everything because "OMG IT ISN'T OVER 9000FPS" and such.

Ok, so something that I haven't seen mentioned in here yet is that it doesn't actually matter how many frames per second your eyes can see versus that of the image in front of you because THEY AREN'T SYNCED!

The rate at which your eyes are taking in images isn't synced up with the rate at which the display is showing them, so what it comes down to is a roll of the dice if your eyes are taking a frame at the same moment the display is displaying a frame. As a result, the greater the frame rate of the display, the higher the odds it will be displaying a complete frame the moment your eye takes one in. Basically, it doesn't matter if you see in 2 fps or 2000 fps, the higher the display's frame rate, the smoother it will appear to you, barring some absurd point of diminishing returns where your eyes are so outpaced by the display it's impossible not to see a full frame.

I did some research on this a few years back and worked with an eye doctor to make sure I had the facts right. The truth is the issue at hand is not so much the number of FPS but rather the deviation.

For example if you have a gaming running at peaks of 210 FPS and valleys of 110 FPS then compare to a system running the same game at peaks of 60 FPS and Valleys of 58 FPS the slower speed game would appear to 90% of the people out there to play smoother. Our eyes are drawn to change and the bigger the change the more easily it is noticed.

High frames rates are cool but if there is a large deviation in the actual displayed rate then the game will appear to have a stutter. Refresh rate helps with this some as a faster refresh allows for an evening out of the frames displayed.

The truth is if you have a game that sits at 60 FPS and does not deviate you would NOT be able to see the difference even with a higher refresh rate. This is why movies can play at 30 FPS and look butter smooth the frame rate does not deviate.

If you have a lightboost capable monitor and aren't using that functionality then shame on you.

While the difference between 60 fps and 120/144 fps can be debatable, the difference between lightboost on and off is astonishing and clearly detectable.

If you are playing any game with a large number of pixels refreshing on a constant basis then lightboost is the best way to go.

I've moved from 60hz to 144hz. I cannot believe the difference. Best gaming experience I've ever had. I'm certainly seeing something!

No, it is not. Movies play at 24 fps and look smooth because of motion blurring. Without motion blurring, go ahead and shoot a film at 24 fps with high speed film. It will look like one of those page flipping movies.
