Cheap silent cpu cooler with easy to mount fans - Page 3

rubber degrades under heat. Silicone doesn't. If you can find a silicone rubber band of the appropriate size be my guest. Really the twist ties are probably easiest though. The cable ties work best with single ties, otherwise you have to engineer something complicated.

The heat on fins of a computer cooler is not as high as hot water out of the tap. wink.gif

As for cable ties, I think it's easier (and cleaner looking) to feed tie though fan, thru fins and slip another cable tie clip end on it against the washer/cooler fins.
Use rubber washers between fan and cooler and between cooler and clip if you are worried about vibration.. I really don't think you need to worry about it.

Shamelessly copied form ehume's Ziptie screw thread. biggrin.gif

definitely cleaner and stronger. Can be easier too, though you do need a way to use only one tie. He apparently needs to attach the fan after the mobo is in the case, and threading that fan over those ties may prove difficult.

Definitely an option though. Depends on the particulars of what he is dealing with. If there's a site with the engineering done for you it;s definitley work a look. Cable ties are better if you can get them on.

As for rubber bands I've used em, and had em sometimes pop after a year or two. It's kinda random.

There;s probably some sort of physics involving temperature, composition of the rubber band, tension level and surface area. Could be an ignobel in there if you work it all out. the One winner's paper (5th?) will live with me forever. Title was something like 'observations on homosexual necrophilia in ducks' or some such. (it actually happens apparently)
